My 66 came in Thursday and WOW!
Until i got it I hadn't tired on on a Z cab. What a BEAST! 32 watts that sounds much MUCH larger/louder. The 66 into the Zbest is as loud as into my 4x12 with heavy mag 65s!!
A guitarist friend of mine fell in love instantly, and another buddy who plays drums (that I used to play with) heard it last night. He said it was the best sounding amp he had ever heard, if not the best amp ever!
I'm using a Banzai Cold Fusion as a boost, but I'm curious what kind of "overdrive pedals" do you use. A buddy told me to try to pick up a Brown Source or clone. Upon thinking about it, it seems many guys use the airbreak instead.

Glad you like the amp!!! Sounds like you might be in need of an Airbrake.
I use a Fulltone "Fulldrive II"
And I use the FDII in addition to the airbrake.

I dig the sound of the Cold Fusion (Klon clone) ran into the front end but fact is I feel like I'm murdering the EF86. Do you feel like the OCD or Klon lops off any low end? Luke

You haven't had luck with attenuators? Have you tried an airbrake?
It's the best one I've found so far.

I use the Fulldrive 2 through the route 66 and Z28 and its a really great combination. Full and super fat. I tend to run the FD at 18 volts.

I use an OCD, Sparkle Drive and Rat with my Rt. 66. All of them sound great to me. When I play my strat I tend to go for the SD more and with my 335 I favor the OCD.

Congratulations on your new Route 66. These amps are incredible sounding. FWIW, out in front of my Route 66, I'm using an Analogman King of Tone, v.4. I haven't tried the Route 66 with a Z Best cab, but instead, have achieved great results with an open back Avatar 1X12" cab loaded with an Eminence AlNiCo Red Fang. Something about the open back cab and AlNiCo speaker really brings out the highs and makes it alot more open 3D sounding than a closed back cab. This cab also tames the bottom and low mids which tend to get too heavy. My favorite guitar with this rig is a Fender Relic Stratocaster.

Have you run it wide open yet, I'm a bit leery of blowing the red fang.

I believe Eminence rates their speakers conservatively.

Do you feel like the OCD or Klon lops off any low end? Luke Not that I can tell. The Klon seems "thicker" than the OCD, but the OCD seems to have a little bit more clarity and may be a little brighter. By the way, I only play single-coil guitars (G&L ASAT special and Fender Tele), so that may make a difference, since I'm not sure what kind of guitar you use.

Glad you like the amp, it's a beast for sure.
The OD that did it for me for my Route 66 after an extensive and expensive search was the Diamond pedals J-Drive Mk3. The clean boost side is fantastic, really transparent and well ... clean, the OD side is thick, crunchy and smooth, no mid hump which is great for Route 66 since it already has such a pronounced mid-range. Not tons of gain but enough for a serious crunch and lead when pushed further with the boost.
I play a hard-tail Strat with DiMarzio Virtual Vintage Solo in the bridge through VHT 4x12 loaded with custom P50E Eminence 50W speakers.

Loving mine too.I had second thoughts for a minute ,then was quickly reminded of it greatness apon its return. I use an Eternity for OD,which is great, but you might want to forgo the OD & go strieght to Fuzz. Even if your not a Fuzz guy the 66 will make you a believer.

What would you say are the differences other than price?

Well I bought mine used, so no wait! I live in Arkansas so access to good gear as almost non-existent. Playing a Z before I buy is impossible in AR, so the story is the same with the airbrake. I've tried a MASS, and Mini-mass. The mini-MASS was better than the MASS in my opinion. The clips etc I've seen heard with THDs and such have been lackluster to me, maybe I just haven't heard them run right? I'm using a pretty varied bunch of guitars. PRS CU24, R8, Strat, Tele, 330, 335, and Godin LGP90. With the exception of the Godin everything has vintage output pups. Thanks for the welcome to the Rt. 66 family guys! Luke
