Here is what I found on alt.guitar.amps about the Route 66 ghost notes problem...
Does anyone know when the problem was fixed? In fact, I would like to know which serials # or years of manufacture are affected. Thanks for your help.

I remember the Dr. telling me that certain parts have gone out of production over the 66's life-span, forcing him to change it's specs slightly. Coreybox, thanks for the info. What should I understand? Do you mean that the so called "ghost notes problem" disapeared when the RT66 specs changed? Anyway, I will contact the good doctor.

My 66 ghost notes. I think it's 2 or 3 years old. You don't hear them at all when the band is playing. I have the Z 2x10 cab and it accentuates the low mids/upper bass where the ghost notes appear the most . When I plug it into a small closed back cab I have with 1x12 EV the ghost notes are greatly diminished.

I haven't really noticed the ghost notes yet with mine, but I haven't played it at high volume for more than a few minutes at a time so far. I just emailed Dr Z about this and he promptly replied, on a Saturday. Very cool.
Dr Z said that mine is a circa 2001, and the older caps were phased out around 2000. He also said that the amp either ghost notes or it doesn't. "Originally the filter was too soft." So apparently the value of the caps may have been changed, etc...

It seems there is some kind of probability. The amp may ghost notes or it may not. I only just bought one in mint condition on ebay (the one you pointed out 5sonic ;-) According to the seller, the amp is approx. 4 years old. So, wait and see... Thanks for your feedback guys.

Dare I say? I like ghost notes.... They seem to show that the amp alive and it needs a little attention to avoid them.

The only thing I hear from my 66 is very deep harmonic overtones I have also heard that cooler biasing can get rid of them as well if you have Ghosties.
