So after getting my 66 a few weeks ago, I've really dug it. However, I really haven't had time to play with settings, and to be honest...really had no idea where to even start. This amp is "different', blah blah...'Cause ya know, that's pretty standard for Z's. ;D
But I was doing a gig with a rock band the other night, and just thought it sounded a little dull. Granted, I wasn't looking for sparkle or chime, just a little bite. So I found a really killer setting that ended up with the treble at about 2:00, the bass at 1:00, and the vol at 1:00. It was LOUD, but it was a big club with a loud band, so really no worries. With the Xotic RC, it was killer from broken clean to some grind, and the Xotic BB for solos was absolutely righteous with the 66 breathing.
This thing just rocks...

Yeah the 66 really starts to come alive with controls past noon ...

For me: everything on 3:00 I may reduce the bass a bit...depending on the cabinet. Of course, I always have to use an Airbrake.

Just got mine from Fatsound today. First opinion, this thing kills and I haven't even tried any pedals yet. I got the 1x12 cab (already had a Z-Best) filled with a Celestion Gold. I highly recommend this speaker with the 66, if you like Blues that is...

I've been using mine with a 50 watt Weber Blue Dog, alnico. So as for the Gold, same basic thing. Sounds wonderful-

I keep both controls immediatly under the point of break up, at 11:00... I don't need the airbrake at stage vol, and I can raise the vol a bit if needed

Jayson are you liking the BB more than say the Boss/Keeley Blues Driver?
Does the BB sound better when the amp is cranked a bit more?

Jayson are you liking the BB more than say the Boss/Keeley Blues Driver? Does the BB sound better when the amp is cranked a bit more? I use the BB and the Keeley BD2 in different ways. To me, the Keeley is as good as it gets for lower gain, slight boost, mild dirt type sounds. Very clear and natural sounding. I use the BB for solos, for more of the saturated "commercial" lead tones.. Kind of along the lines of Lukather, Dann Huff, etc. It's the absolute BEST I've ever used for that application. I did a gig last night with my 66 and Z cab... Used my Peavey HP Signature with DiMarzio Virtual PAF's. Absolutely SMOKED with the BB. Also was using the RC for cleanish boost. The RC plus the 66 and a single coil guitar will give you KILLER Hendrix-y tones like Little Wing, Wind Cries Mary, etc. The RC has it's own little magic as well... ;D

The ONLY pedal I used with my Rt 66 was the RC, and a Weber alnico blue dog speaker. Absolutely the best 'rock machine' I've ever owned. Problem is I don't play much driving rock anymore and had to let her go...but what a wild ride it was. ;D

I'm digging the RC I got. I tried a friend's BB which I also liked. I agree with you on the BD-2. It sounds good low gain setting but if you crank the gain around it gets a little too nasty sounding. So the BB may work well for my higher gain stuff.

I find the sweet spot all dials on 12:00 and the SHO on as well.

Jayson, that is my setting too, sometimes bass on two and treble on one. With the Zbest it's loud but I get away with it most times. (Although I have a "loud" reputation amoungst the other muso's and soundguys in town. You've really got me wondering about the BB, I was/am a huge Dan Huff fan. I'll never forget the first time I heard the intro to the first song on the Giant album and then the rest of it!!! His shred was AMAZING. I think I'll have to fork out as I need a high gain pedal for leads and modern rock stuff. Glad you're diggin the 66.

Welcome back and Happy Easter Taz. A few of our northern hemisphere forumites were starting to wonder if you had been eaten by a Tasmanian devil ;D as we hadn't heard from you for a while. I was almost going to pop into the ABC shop in byron bay and see if your sister was in there and ask if all was ok.
Good to have you back mate.

Thanks George, yeah, I did reply in the "where's Taz" post. Nice to know someone cares! ;D My sister is on an around Australia in a camper jaunt at the moment although I think she was offered a big job at Virgin Blue so she might be back in Ballina by now. Hey, we were on Tsunami alert as well. Pretty freaky. Weather is still pretty warm down here and we've been swimming, surfing all easter (26C) and the water is still warm (for us), so it was a bit of a suprise. We actually got a small tsunami from the earthquake below Macquarie Island that may have triggered the big Ache Boxing day quake. We recieved 4 "high tides" in 10 minutes that day. My 66 still sounds amazing...just had to get back on track.
