Hey Buddy, Have you ever gigged with, or for that matter played much through a Rt.66 with the Bluesbreakers. I ask you, because I (we) love the music you guys play, your playing style, and EXACTLY your tone through your MAZ Senior. (best amplifier of all time) Seriously....your Strat-thru-Senior tone is in my top faves right up there with Duane, Dickey, Bloomfield....and like your Strat tone better than good ole SRV.
Anyway, have no need for a 66 here....(just a want).
Curious about your thoughts touring with a Rt.66....and using your Strat and P-90 Lentz of course, but also carrying ONLY a Les Paul on those gigs? Tone, Cut, Volume, etc? Scotty used to have Rt.66's (prior to owning Les Pauls) and never really connected with them as much as the MAZ Juniors and Seniors. A Rt.66 seems like the kind of Amp EVERYONE has to own....that's all. Thanks, Mark

Hey, Mark-I've had a 66 for years and have used it quite a bit locally and for recording. Since I hardly ever use any pedals, the best way for me to approach the 66 is with a 'bucker guitar, which I have never had the luxury of taking on the road (since I'm primarily a single coil kinda guy). But when you stick a Les Paul or 335 straight in there, look out! Its just sorta become difficult for me over the years to get the versitality I need for a complete show out of a humbucker.

Thanks Buddy... When Playing Humbuckers through one, do you need to be (almost) wide-open for Beano tones? I'm guessing, that it would do beautiful Allman tones with a Les Paul at noon on the volume? Mark

Well, I can't profess to EVER having achieved 'Beano' tone. ;^) But it sounds GREAT to me anywhere you set it. I almost always back the volume off to maybe a little over half to 3/4 just so I have a little 'clean' left for the rhythms when I back the guitar down. Your post inspired me to hook 'er up and make some racket this morning. My daughter's in the 7th Grade beginning band playing sax, and they're learning...get ready...'SMOKE ON THE WATER" for SOME reason unbeknownst to me. So I provided a little wakeup call ala Mr. Blackmore for 'em this a.m....

Hey, now that's a cool way to wake up, BW playing Deep Purple through a Route 66!!! ;D ;D ;D The 66 and my Grosh Set Neck do a pretty wicked Blackmore. Solo's with the Tonefactor hellbilly just for a bit of Germanium grunt. Good fun.

If you really want Beano I think there'd have to be a germanium booster in there somewhere. Clapton may or may not have had one but it sure sounds like it.

Well, I don't know where the info came from, but the popular consensus is that he used a Dallas (no, not THAT Dallas) Rangemaster 'treble boost' as it was known in those days. I asked John about it, he has no idea. Not gear minded in the least. But I showed him an ad for the 'Beano Boost' in VG one time and he laughed and said, "What are these guys trying to..accomplish?"
