First I’d like to say I’m new to Dr. Z amps and I must say this is a VERY COOL forum, everyone seems to be knowledgeable and friendly. I’ve always played the usual suspects Marshall’s, Fenders, had a Boogie but it always sounded kind of metallic and flat. I’ve recently bought a Dr. Z Route 66 from eBay and am eagerly awaiting it’s arrival. My musical style ranges from old school blues, to classic rock, Zep, Yardbirds, Hendrix, UFO, Thin Lizzy, to even more contemporaries like Bauhaus, and Radio Head. I was wondering what would be a good cab that would suite all of these styles. Thanks for your help, Niko

Z-Best is always great, but many guys in this forum have som other cool speakers (1x12, 2x12, 2x10) that seem to work great too... welcome

Hey Niko, welcome. Kinda depends on where you play and how loud you can play. I'd recommend the Z best also. It is an amazing cab. I haven't tried any other speaker combinations in it as I've never felt the need. It sounds so good as is. An old Marshall quad will kill as well. For smaller clubs a 1-12 with an inefficient speaker like a G12H-30 will help tame the volume. I have an Ulbrick 1-12 with a custom made Celestian Heritage speaker that works great. You can also get an Airbrake to help reduce volume. It works really well, especially if you only need to drop down 2 clicks. I find I prefer not to attenuate, not so much because of tone loss which there is little, more for the feel of it. With heavy attenuation it's harder to get a clean sound at decent volume rolling back the guitar volume and you also lose a litle presence. The airbrake works great for the venues where you need to start a little quieter but can let go a bit later. Set the airbrake on 2 or 3 and then work your way down till it's off in the last set! ;D
One word of warning, the ZBest is a LOUD cab. but it is just killer. I don't think you'd ever find a better 2-12.

I use two 1X12 open back cabinets, one with a G12H30 and one with a Celestion Blue. They sound great together or each one individually. Gives you flexibility based on where you are playing, plus the 1X12 cabs are light and easy to carry around.

ZBest 2x12 is very good, But IMO the Z 4x10 with the Route 66 is a perfect match.
