Earlier this week, I bought a Route 66 with a Z-Best 2x12 cabinet in Blonde tolex. I am amazed at what this amp can dish out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My style is in the vein of At The Drive In, The Mars Volta, Explosions in the Sky, Mogwai, Tool, early Rage Against The Machine, Soundgarden, Pink Floyd, Sigùr Ros, Godspeed You! Black Emperor....... I know this amp was probably not designed with these sounds in mind. It was conceived with the principle that a great amp should be a great amp regardless of style. Sonic Transcendence if you will... The Route 66 covers these sounds and much more with aplomb. As a matter of fact, with the right guitar and pedals this amp is a near perfect platform for any guitarist of any style( maybe not extreme metal!). Speaking of pedals, I tried (with spectacular results): Zvex Fuzz Factory Zvex Super Hard On Zvex WahProbe Zvex Seekwah Fulltone DéjàVibe Fulltone Soulbender Diamond J-Drive Early 80's RAT (LM308 chip) EHX Deluxe Memory Man Guitar used was a Parker Nitefly loaded with Tom Anderson pups. Not one pedal sounded bad. The Fuzz Factory being a finnicky pedal to start with sounded exactly like it should: defined, clear and it cut through.... Fuzz, OD's and distortions shine with this amp. The DMM can cause spikes with other amps...not the with the 66!!!!!!!! I double dare you to get an unusable sound out of it. Anywhere on the dial it sounds amazing..... Forgive the long post...

yarmo, Leave while you still can! The Z forum is notorious for making people spend money buying more and more Z amps! Welcome aboard...the 66 is a great amp...I like mine for country tele pickin...it is very versatile.

I too have a Route 66 and use for it for an indie/experimental rock band - I am fond of many of your influences. I agree that the Route 66 excels in this environment - it fills a mix so nicely yet retains all the clarity and focus you could ask for. Do you have a website or myspace for your band?

Not yet.
We're replacing our drummer in the following weeks. After that we start recording. As soon as I manage to work out something I'll let you guys know.
Do you have a link to some of your stuff?

Hey Yarmo, nice to see another rock head using this beast of an amp! My latest album which I have YET to release (for a plethora of reasons) was totally recorded with the Rt 66 and Zbest. You can check it out here if you wish. drzamplifiers.proboards41.com/index.cgi?board=soundfiles&action=display&thread=1135038050There is quite alot of deja-vibe on the album so you'll recognize that sound. I agree the amp does the classic rock thing to a tee but also does the modern thing really well too with the right pedals. I have tried the Zvex FuzzFactory with the Rt 66 and it totally rocked. I used it for Lenny Kravitz, Cream, Deep Purple etc in a covers band and it was great. I have a tonefactor Hellbilly and when I stacked it behind the fuzzfactory I had an amazing high gain shred lead tone very reminicient of early Van Halen For hard rock/metal or harder modern rock I think a solid state rectifier would work really well in this amp. I love the sponge though. Cheers, and welcome.

It is the most pedal friendly amp I have ever play through. I sometimes run an RC booster, BB booster, Bab Bod clean boost and Mojo Vib through my 66 at the same time for a very singing Santana like tone with my Strat. The 66 handles this load like it's nothing. I blew up a Fender Deluxe Reverb Reissue trying something like this in about 3 min. The 66 just takes it and I have had the original tubes in it for two years now.
