I love the tone and simplicity of my Carmen Ghia, but find it under powered for some venues. Would the Route 66 provide similar tone with more clean headroom? Thanks.

Nope, very different tone.
You want a Mazaratti. It's basically a high powered Ghia. But you'll have to find a used one as the Doc has suspended production. Search Ebay for one.

A Stang Ray also sounds very similar but won't distort near as much.
