I know many of you used and reviewed this pedal already and and no one has asked for my observation here............but, I just wanted to post my thoughts after using this pedal.........in case anyone else is on the fence with getting one.
I Bought one yesterday......I think this pedal is perfect for the RT 66........and much to my surprise, the gain knob does add gain.....nice high end bite....in the sound clips I thought it was just a clean boost, but you really can put some extra hair on your tone without any added compression or fuzz or whatever you call it that makes your tone farty.....with the airbrake on 4 or so I was getting total van halen...........for fun...........I read another review on this forum where a guy said he loved the treble control on the RC..........he was right about it being very useable. What I found with the rt 66 and the RC is that when you want to play clean.........volume, treble , Bass around 10...........the RC clears up the "smoke"..........so you get some more versatility with the RT...........( I love the smoke also though!) I am not into high gain, so this is the only pedal I think I will boost the Rt 66 with from now on!

That's great James. I think the Rt66 loves any good boost pedal and everyone seems to love the RC. I'd love to try one.

Yep, I love my RC with the 66. The treb really helps when you want to play a little more chimey with a strat or tele.
Tasweigan, I checked out your songs, they sound great! Nice stuff! The z sounds great too!

I am trying to brighten up the sound a bit on my 66. Would the RC Booster give you the benefits of an EQ, in terms of adding more treble, as well as the rest of what it does?

JB,
exactly what you said........the RC gives you an EQ to work from that allows you to dial in more treble...........so you get cleaner, brighter low volume tones..with more headroom...lets you get that Pro Reverb - Super Reverb clean tone....It gives the rt 66 a whole new dimension of versatility........so now you have the smokey clean, the RC clean.............and then the volume and treble "jacked up " tones that we love about this amp........and with the BB working side by side........the RC and a strat......woaa! I was working my tone from 2 angles.......if I needed a SRV clean rhythm to clean with hair rhythm......., the RC could be dialed in to accomodate either tone and then the BB could be dialed in with minimal gain for the solo boost..with minimal added "fuzz"........on the other hand, if I wanted "pride and joy" tone, the BB could be running with the gain at noon........and the RC could be used with a tiny amt of gain to boost the BB's tone for a solo.......without adding dirt.........i.e. "each pedal could boost the other one and vice versa witout coloring the tone"
Also, with the Rt 66 running in the "sweet spot" on its own, the RC makes the "milkshake" even thicker!
I am just writing so much cuz I had a little breakthrough with these 2 pedals and my rt 66.........basically been buying and selling stomp boxes for 6 months now and searching with frustration for the tones I was hearing in my head..........I think I got something to work with now.

Thanks for your help. Instead of getting an EQ, I will get the RC. In your search for stompboxes, did you find a delay that sounded good?

I use just a slight bit of delay (Ibanez AD9) to add a bit of body instead of reverb. I also use a bit of reverb at times, I can get that "everybody knows this is nowhere" neil young sound with my lp, the rc and reverb.
19jmm68, have you compared the bb to the ac??? Im using the ac/rc combo but Im wondering what the bb would sound like compared to the ac.

I have the vintage Ibanez AD-80 that runs on 18volts. If you don't need more than 300ms of delay and you can find one, they are an amazing sounding analog delay.

JB........I went overboard and bought the T rex replica.........its a wonderful compromise if you want something sounding close to the TTE.........but, in retrospect, I probably would have went with something cheaper....like the maxon ad 9...I just need a simple slap back option , as well as some basic echo for a reverb effect.....I recently thought about selling the T rex, but, decided to keep it.....it does sound wonderful and afterall, it's just money! You will love the RC.........let me know what you think when you get it! Viddarenca, I have all 3, but, the AC is on E bay in favor of the RC/BB combo........I am lousy at describing tone in words, but, the AC sounded nasally to me with the rt. 66 and single coils? ? I did think it sounded pretty great with a pro reverb though..pretty amazing actually............just listen to Josh Smith's 2nd interview on the prosound website..where he plays the BB with a wah and a mojovibe.........its those tones that sold me on the BB.......... I guess I just found mysef working mostly between the RC and BB and that was all I needed........between those 2 pedals and my volume controls, I was getting all the shades of dirt that I needed....... Bluzsteel is gonna compare/contrast the 3 boxes this week..........look for his post as I am sure it will be really interesting and informative.

Heres a clip of the rc and ac with the 66. Graveyard shift and Workingmans blues, my guitar is the loud one, doing the fills, the rc is on the whole time and I just used the vol knob on the lp for more drive. At least I think I just used the rc, the ac has a different feel to it, that was a long night lol! profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=43458210

cool...fat tone on graveyard shift...thanks for the listen! Was the AC on in that song? Sounded like you kicked something on........that sounded "beefy"
My opinion of the AC when used with the RT66 and a les paul OTOH, as I neglected to mention in the other post, sounds superb IMO.
Its all personal preference!

yeah, I cant remember if I kicked something on or not, I seem to think that I had the lp set up for that tone then backed off the vol on the guitar and cranked it for the lead. It was a 4 hr gig and I was playin sloppy at that point lol!

Right on, sounds like a great match. My fave so far is a new-ish OCD. It has this incredible openess to it! Sounds like your plugged straight in but, with anything from clean boost, to a little hair, to outright heavy. It can also brighten up the sometimes tawny, beautifully burnished tones of the 66. A little more chime from those big bottles!! I also love anything from MJM, His blues devil and 60's vibe are THE best 808 and vibe clones availible to date (IMHO of course )

I have tried about 25 high end pedals, some in the $400 range, with my Route 66 (thank god for Ebay) and I liked the Xotic Effect pedals so much I begged them for a dealership for my Ebay store. I play Strats almost exclusively and I use an RC and a BB and a Bad Bod clean boost and I can keep my holy grail clean tone and boost to Santana proportions if I desire. I have never played through an amp that handles pedals better. It was just so hard to find a pedal that was transparent enough to not take me off that killer clean/slightly dirty tone. I run my volume on the amp at 1 o'clock and do all other volume adjustments from the guitar. At this volume the amp needs very little from the pedals to send it over the top and over the top it will go, especially with two of the afore mentioned pedals going at the same time. I have shamelessly pushed this amp with pedals at non recommended volume settings in larger venues and I have never ever blown a tube. Blew a couple fuses but big deal. Best amp I ever owned and I have been a high end amp owner since 1975.

I almost forgot to mention, if you put a bad bob in front of the RC, it will put the smoke right back in again. I will turn the RC on for chunky chords and then click on the Bob for a solo. The Bob just throws a little more db at the RC and the amps power tubes. It's almost like I suddenly switched to a humbucker, very cool.

Hey Herf,
RC before BB...........

I go BB, RC, it's a little more detailed like that and then Bab Bob last. The Bad Bob last will almost start to clean it up but the Volume increase will push the head more so you get almost the same sound lifted with more sustain. If you put the RC 1st it will be more distorted but it depends on the sound you are going for. What a great amp though, how many amps have you owned that you could seriously have this discussion about 2 or 3 OD pedals and a Wah, no problem. Herf, how do you like that Mooretone Strat been looking at those?

The RC is great with the 66 especially if you need to add some more highs.

Herf, how do you like that Mooretone Strat been looking at those? I love my Mooretone Strat. Mike does a lot of things that might be considered unconventional, but the action and the tone are proof enough for me. I highly recommend calling Mike Moore and discussing it with him. He will answer any and all questions and loves to talk about guitars. Oh yeah, Michael Burks has one and says he loves it.
