I'm awaiting delivery of a 2X12 cab with a Celestion Blue and Fane Ceramic, both 8 ohms, so I can wire it for either 16 or 4 ohms (series or parallel). I'd guess 4 ohms wired in parallel would be the way to go so I wouldn't lose both speakers if one failed, but with the Rt. 66 is there a preference, 4 or 16? If so, why? What are the trade-offs? How does the total load affect the amp's performance, reliability, etc?
Thanks guys

Aren't you afraid of blowing your Blue? I think the 66 has too much power for it if you're only running 2 speakers.

I rewired a Marshall Bluesbreaker reissue from 16 ohms to 4 ohms once. It rolled off the top end a bit. There is a theory that the 16 ohm tap uses the full output transformer and lower impedances only use part of the transformer. Hook it up both ways and see which you like.

I'm not too concerned about the power handling. The power is split between the 2 speakers so the Blue only handles about 1/2 the load. Also, I've owned a Blue before and I believe the power handling rating to be pretty conservative. Mostly I'm curious since the amp offers the option of running the load as either 4 or 16 ohms, whether there are +'s or -'s either way.
