My 66 came loaded with a pair of Chinese(Shuguang) KT66's. The original GT'ss were included as well. I did some swapping and comparing today.
I prefered the Chinese tubes. I liked the clarity in these tubes. They were brighter than the GT's and seemed to bring out everything I wanted to hear.
The GT's sound darker with less apparent top end.
Anyone else using something other than the stock GT's?

Yeah, I'm using the Genelex (GEC) brown base clear bottle KT66's. I really wanted the brown base gray glass but I couldn't go past the price I was offered for the clear bottles so I grabbed them. It was always my tone dream to have a KT66 amp with Golden Lion/Genelex/GEC's. I also have a 1954 steel based Mullard in the rectifier slot. I'm pretty proud of that purchase too. I love this amp!

I'm using the saratovs right now...isn't that the GT tube? When my tubes blew last month, I just needed a fast replacement and these were a known quantity. I like the sound of them...smooth breakup. I think I will order some of the Shuguang as a backup and see how those compare.

The Shuguangs run a little hotter than the GT's.
In my amp the Shugangs are a little more clear and crisp to me. The GT's are smoother and darker.
I'm gonna order another set of Shuguangs from Weber as a back up

I have the stock GTs in mine. I changed out the rectifier for an NOS (don't recall which model) that I got from KCA NOS tubes. I wanted a tighter response (less sag). I got it with the NOS rectifier. I also tried an NOS EF-86 (again, I don't remember wich one). I actually prefer the stock Svetlana. The NOS was too bright.

I'm gonna order another set of Shuguangs from Weber as a back up The C and HPs will run at the same temp if biased the same and are of the same rating for a start. The C can get a bit iffy at over 450 plate volts.
