Instead of the highly reflective room....last night I got to try the Remedy in the same large room where my classic rock band rehearses.
Carpet on the floor, some drapes, and about 80 cloth chairs...all to help soak up some sound. And, I'm familiar with how this room sounds. Still a little reflective, but usable.
I didn't take the G12H30 this time.
V30 is now in the Avatar Cube
Greenback is now in the Avatar Vintage
(Both are openback, but not by much. They act/sound very closed back)
NOW I can hear the details of the notes being played.
I was stunned/thrilled all night (only took the Les Paul) with just playing attack and guitar volume... how dynamic the amp is. How the amp can go from clean, to crunch...then you figure it's not going to get much crunchier from a nice rhythm crunch...but when you max the guitar volume, it REALLY adds nice over the top saturation. All without touching a pedal or the amp. All guitar volume and hands.
Now that I wasn't in such a reflective room, I did turn the treble up to about 2:00 Nothing else was changed. I did try turning the treble volume down and turning the bass/normal volume up, but that didn't work at all. I can actually use the amp with the bass/normal volume all the way off...using only the treble channel. But my normal setting will be with the bass/normal volume on noon, treble volume on about 2:00-2:30. Bass: noon, mid: 3:00, treble: about 2:00
The V30 wasn't so bright and harsh as it was in the reflective room. Very usable. I think it will certainly cut through the mix a bit better than the greenback. But the greenback had THAT sound. It will be my go-to speaker with this amp. If for some reason the single greenback isn't cutting it for gigging (and I can't imagine it won't) I'll get a 2x12 with greenbacks before I use the single V30.
Perhaps I'll feel a difference as I get more accustomed to the amp, but for right now, the 20 watt setting with no attenuation sounds/feels the same as the 40 watt setting with 2 clicks down.
