Wasn't sure where to post this question, but basically I am wondering which Z amp has the most gain on tap?
Thanks

Mazerati GT, Galaxie or the SRZ65. The Prescription is sweet but doesn't offer the most gain IMO. The overdose boosts the volume and feel but doesn't really add more gain/distortion. Hope this helps. Paul

I've recorded all of my Z amps wide open, and you can browse through those recordings here: www.gear.strayca.com/. The RXES has a lot of gain from my view, as does the SRZ-65. But the grand master all time highest gain goes to the Mazerati GT.

Thanks. Is there is difference between the mazerati and the mazerati gt? How much gain are we talking about?

Thanks. Is there is difference between the mazerati and the mazerati gt? How much gain are we talking about? They are not really even the same amp, except for the letters on the nameplate. The GT has massive amounts of gain, while the earlier Mazerati has some crunch available if you dime the volume. The GT starts with solo levels of gain with the volume up 1/4. Up to about noon, you can roll your guitar volume back and it cleans up real nice. Past noon you're into Van Halen territory.

Steve, have you had a chance to play through a dimed Galaxie? I think you're right about the Mazerati GT, especially after hearing your recordings. But the farther reaches of the Galaxie, in pentode and channel two, are pretty rich in gain.
I can't resist saying it like that.
;D

I played a Galaxie, but without an attenuator, and it was way loud. Couldn't dime it there in the store without evacuating all small children and notifying neighboring countries.
