I have owned and loved my Maz Jr for close to 6 months now. It truly is amazing, but I am having some volume level/breakup issues and now want to find a higher watt/more headroom model.
I've read somewhere that since I'm so used to the Jr that I may not like the RXES. I really do not want to buy it and find that its not my taste, and maybe a Maz Sr would be more up my way. But after all of my reading up on the RX, I really really want to give one a go.
Also, how does the overdose sound at low volumes? I normally use an array of pedals for my OD sounds, but a feature like that might sound better to my ears.
I could really use some input on this! ;D

Well the RXES has no master volume. You don't start getting distortion until the volume control is up around 10 o'clock, but by then you are getting pretty loud. To run the thing with the kind of gain I like, I have to use an Airbrake to tame it. That's when the goodies become available at the volume I need. In my setup I use a Stingray and the RXES both plugged in to a stereo 2x12 cab, both heads with Airbrakes. I typically run the Stingray with its Airbrake one click down, and the RXES usually gets three or four clicks down. I use the RXES for gainy solos, and the Stingray for the cleaner stuff. So the RXES works great for that, but you need to have an Airbrake or ear plugs.

Like Benntop said. My RxES usually begins breaking up around 4 on the dial. The OD really starts adding its own dimension to the tone at about that same level. Hitting the OD doesn't meen instant distortion like it would with a pedal. It's a great boost but with the volume down around 9 o'clock or lower, it just makes for a fatter, more punchy clean tone. Still a cool sound, but not really overdriving at that point. This is definately one loud amp, so an airbrake is a must for most people. I'm not sure what type of volumes you're looking for, but that would be something I would take into consideration when chosing between the RxES and the MAZ Sr. After all, the master volume on the MAZ works great as you probably already know.

Wow.. Thank you Benttop and aj1169. That actually just made me decide to go with the Sr. Maybe one day I might need that sort of volume, but the SR may work well for me.. I love the tone of the JR anyways. I thank you guys very much!

No problem. Let us know what you think of the Sr. when you get one.
