Hello Guys I just sold my Ghia Head ... 'cause I need money But I'd like to buy another Dr Z Head to go with 2*12 V30 in a few months, BUT I 'd like : - 1 channel head - 1 Master ... and maybe a EQ more complete (Bass/Treble) - about 30 W (but no more than 50) - light crunch near the Ghia when the Volume pot is on 9-10h o'clock (I fell in love) - the heavy crunch (Volume Pot after 12 o'clock) is not useful for me. - will sound great with single coils and HBs (I tought that the Ghia is not perfect AMHA with HB) What amps do you advise to me ? MAZ 38 Sr ? Stingray ? Prescription ? Another ? I'm sorry to say that testing Dr Z amps in Europe are unavailable ... so please help me to find the good tone Nico (France)

Nico, Sounds like your lookin at a MAZ 38 given your discription.... Either a reverb or a NR head ( if I had to choose I'd get a NR w/ the loop and use a holy grail if needed but thats just MHO) only "one channel" with a MASTER volume cause you said you wanted at least 30 watts so that rules out the JR.... but I don't think you can go wrong with a MAZ SR period!!! Hey Jason Thanks a lot for your answer A friend of mine compare the Carmen Ghia to a mix of a plexi and a Vox. I think the MAZ Sr is more voxy, but with the Dr 's touch ;-) Are you OK with this ? I'm watching the MAZ on ebay ;-)

Nico, your welcome, the MAZ series would be somewhat comparable to the Ghia as far as also having a little plexi about it along with some vox/ a little fender.... QUESTION: was the Ghia LOUD enough for your needs? the reason I ask is that you mentioned you'd like a 30 watt amp... THE MAZ on E-BAY is a MAZ JR which is an 18 watt amp.... if you were ok with the GHIA volume wise (ghia is also an 18 watt amp) then a maz JR may work for ya ( it should be a little louder than the ghia with a little more clean headroom before it starts to break up than the ghia had) the MAZ SR is gonna be 38 watts and a bit louder than the MAZ JR and GHIA but the most noticable difference to me is bigger bottom and much, much more clean headroom than the other two 18 watt amps... if you are lookin for a little hair (more gain/ plexi break-up) out of the amp go with a NR model of the JR or SR and you'll get just a little more gain.... Jason

On a Maz pull the cut way down, maybe off, and push up the treble, sounds more Fendery then. Maz Sr can really do just about anything. Jazz, blues, country, rock, pop, you name it, it's in there. With the master volume it'll do it just about anythime, anywhere. You don't have to worry about being to loud.

Thanks guys The Ghia is enough Loud for me ... but I'd like a Master to control the breakup ;-) So the MAZ-18 could be great for me. What would be (in your opinion) the Dr Z's amp with the spirit of plexi ?

What would be (in your opinion) the Dr Z's amp with the spirit of plexi ? With 'buckers?? a Z/28 hands down, will do it with singles but you'll need a GOOD clean booster. You'd be amazed at the Plexi tones in a cranked Z/28, no master so grab an air brake, and be happy !!!!

The route 66 will get you into plexi land too. A real good plexi that is...but it's up there with any 50 watter I've heard in volume too. Kurt, I thought we had a deal...no more Z28 plexi talk while I can't get one!

Why not just replace it with another Ghia if the only reason you sold it was, for "the money"? I don't know, if you like it so much get another! If on the other hand you want some "PLEXI" in the sub-50 watt range and a little Fender deluxe thrown in, then get a Z 28' with either 10's or a 12" Either way you are on a winner! One just sold with a gold plexi front in a factory 4x10 cab for a good price. They're out there, but they don't hang around long "KEEP ON ROCKIN IN THE FREE WORLD"

Hey guys, thanks a lot I sold the ghia for money, because I don't need a fat crunch (when ht eVolume is up to 11 o'clock) and I'd lie to have an EQ more complete (Bass - Treble). The Z28/Route 66 seem great, but I should add an Z Air Break. But why not ? I'm going to search Z amps in 220 V on ebay ;-)
