I have been looking around online at alot of Z-dealers for a Rx-Es and found a couple that have in stock the new combo amp with a Celestion Gold 1x12,anyone hear one of these? If so what do you think? I wouldn't mind a combo at all since I could always add another 1x12 or 2x10 down the line if needed.Rx-Es owners HELP!

I haven't heard the combo, but I don't see how it would be any different than the 1x12 Gold configuration I've been recording here. Although I have two Golds in my THD 2x12, I have it wired stereo and I've been recording with just one speaker. It sounds amazing, to put it mildly. Check the sounds forum.

I checked out your clips, sound fantastic! And your playing is top notch Bentop, if the combo will sound that good it may not be a bad way to go, less stuff to haul and I'm sort of a combo guy anyway. I found two around a red one or black one, red would be nice! Now how do you hide a Red amp from the wife?

Well except the SRZ-65 - been keeping that one down in the studio or out in the garage. I keep wanting a combo myself, and for a long time was thinking on a Stang Ray 1x12, but the RXES sure sounds cool too, so I'm probably the wrong guy to ask.

I was going to standardize on all black. And not just because it is easier to sneak a new head into the mix. New? No honey, that amp has been here for ages. I brought a Black/black head and a black with salt & pepper grille cloth home and silly me, asked her opinion. Pretty dull, she said, do they come in any other colors? I showed her a bunch of images from the gallery and she picked out the blonde with black & tan. Whatever it takes to increase her positive vibes about my hardware, so back to the dealer I go and place an order. The pictures I saw before hand simply do not do justice to how nice it looks in person. Having seen the new Stang head & cabinets like Steve has, chosing between blonde with black & tan versus black with black & tan is going to be difficult. pittsburghplayer, I think you are good and truly not going to be able to hide a red one unless you go red with everything. A red head would sit there in a sea of black and scream "look at me". A red combo would be like waving flags. Red sure looks nice though, doesn't it? I thought of you yesterday, Steve, when I saw the RxES combo. And then I thought, maybe I should keep an eye out for a good deal on Steve's RxES head when he breaks down and orders a combo.

I can't praise the RxES with 1 Celestion Gold enough. I don't have the combo version, but I do use the RxES head with one of Z's open back 1x12 cabs loaded with the Gold. This is my #1 setup right now and covers tons of bases. I mostly play country and classic rock, which this amp excells at, but I have been able to coax out some more modern sounding rock tones by using the high input with the volume up and OD engaged. It's a loud amp, which worried me at first, but it really is pretty controlable. There's always the airbrake if it's just too much. Good luck and let us know if you end up getting one.

Dude, you don't get me do you? If I get a RXES combo, that would be IN ADDITION to the RXES head I have! There's still space in my studio for more amps, so let's not get hasty about parting with any of them just yet.... well, I may sell one in order to get another, we'll see.

I love a 1x12 C-Gold with Z amps that I've tried,Airbrake is the key to the set-up. With SRZ65,just need to pay attention to vol,but for most gig vol level ,it should not be an issue.

It was a tongue-in-cheek subliminal message. Not to worry, RxES are easier to find than SRZ. I could have a new one tomorrow if I was not behind on my quarterly taxes.

Let's just say that on the scale of what is important, harmony with SWMBO is an order of magnitude higher than anything that may follow.

I just bought my RXES 1x12 with the gold on Saturday. It has a lot of different sound characteristics, tight, focused, chimey, bell like, sweet mids, balanced, now in the little room in the store where i did the demo it just about blew me out of the room. Once i got home i tried a historic lp, a classic lp, a 52 vintage hot rod tele, and a 60's relic strat through it with great results. This is a very punchy amp, Ive yet to a/b it with my komet at full volume, but the Z is a monster in it's own right. Paul

I run my Rx w/ 1 x12 gold. I Love it! In the past I've used a boost or over drive pedals for my basic rhythm sound. With this set up I go straight into the amp and use an Z Air brake and it sounds amazing.

I bought this amp about 3 weeks ago and haven't looked back. I try many tube amps at the store, Fenders, Mesa, Orange, and even Vox. The RX was by far the most expensive of the bunch but you get what you pay for. My last amp was a Vox VT50 and I hated it. Not the sound of it but the complexity of it. That amp made me realize that effects should be built into the rig. The 1x12 gold is.........golden. What a nice sound. One thing I should warn you about, the tone is so good you will need to learn how to play guitar all over again. ;D

I recently picked up this same combo, and I will never part with this amp. In fact i'm about to sell off all my other amps to fund the purchase of a few more Dr Z amps.

Yeah, the Doc has me right where he wants me - and I still want a couple more of his amps. Some to consider for you: The RXJr sounds exactly like the ES but it has a master volume and is only 15 watts. Really nice around the studio and apartment, and loud enough for a lot of venues. The Maz Jr is an amazing amplifier - getting to be one of my favorites around here. And of course the Stang Ray has the best cleans you've ever heard - I've never owned anything quite like it. Then of course if you want high gain, look no further than the Mazerati GT. YIKES!

One of the sweetest clips I've heard on this site is one Benttop did with the RXES and Gold.
