Thinking of selling my RX ES, my friend really wants it and I wouldn't mind maybe finding something different. Any suggestions on diff amp models to try out? I really like the Z and definately wouldn't mind staying in that family, plus i have the combo and I really want to go for a head/cab next.

Usually a more bluesy, jazzy type of sound. I play it mostly with my church and a few other gigs, but i still have to have something that can get really nasty if i need it too. I know it sounds familiar and everyone is kinda doing it, but like I love the Mayer sound. I know alot of it is him and his effects. Im not one on using a huge board of pedals. I like a simple straight great sound!

Well, if volume is an issue, then I would recommend one of the MAZ series amps. Either the Jr. or Sr. depending on desired volume and headroom, and they both have terrific master volumes if you need a good dirty sound at lower levels. Also I wouldn't rule out the Route 66 either. I tried one of these out when I was checking out a StangRay, and it's now on my radar screen as a fantastic blues amp. Hope this will help.

Volume really isn't an issue at all, lol, now that I've been reading all the posts on the site I'm thinking about not selling it, pop in some new speakers and just seeing. What kinda of sound does the Stangray have?

The StangRay has the most impressive clean tone I've ever heard. It's based on the old Vox AC30/4 amp, but it's not a dead copy of that amp. The cleans are ultra complex with chime for days. I'm mostly a country player, and the Ray is perfect for that, but I also hooked up a good Boost pedal when I auditioned it, and with pedals it can nail a great blues tone or classic rock tone. It's a very clean amp overall. Not alot of breakup on it's own. When you turn the volume up you can get a little grit or hair on the notes, but a good pedal will give you anything you need as far as overdrive goes. The amp takes pedals extremely well. I ordered mine with Celestion Blues, which will enhance the Voxiness of the amp, however I tried it out with a Z-Best and a Z 4x10 cab. I was really suprised at how great it sounded with the 4x10. Not what I was expecting.
