would it damage my rxes or zbest 2x12 cab if they were connected using a guitar cable instead of a speaker cable?

It's not a good idea because guitar cables are designed to carry the small signal from a guitar and when you run the much larger signal from the amp through one it's not good for the amp.

it was plugged in for about 10 minutes, that shouldnt have hurt it to bad should it?

If everything is working after you changed out the guitar cable with a proper speaker cable, your amp most likely suffered no damage at all. The problems occur when the high voltage present at the speaker output eventually causes the finely stranded wire in a standard guitar cable to short out. Don't sweat it, just be sure to always use speaker cable in the future.
