I just got a used 08' Ghia from a forum member. Hooked it up, sounds great except for the tube rattle. At half volume I can tap on the input and hear the tube. Where sould I start, power or pre tubes. I've heard this noise before in new GT power tubes, el-84's, I was able to return those for a new set. I have some other tubes to swap out, but their "worn". The amp came from Canada, so it had quite a trip to make to Florida. I'm betting some tube took a bit of damage during the shipping. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

That's really common, even when the haven't been shipped.
Tube damper rings help a bit, but if they're really bad you generally have to replace them.
The EL84's and the 5Y3 rectifiers are common sources, probably the EL84's are what I'd replace first, then the rectifier if it persists.
Luckily both are pretty cheap. I'd get a NOS 5Y3 if at all possible.

It's got a NOS 5Y3, a JAN, I hopes it's not that. I'll try different el84's when I get home tonight. The Ghia has some balls already, even with the Blue that not broken in yet, and the rattle.

That's the problem with EL84's they often start to rattle when there's lots of life in them and they still sound good. I've replace sets with 20 hours or less on them because the rattle was too annoying. It seems to happen with any EL84 amp I've owned, but the combos are the worst. The NOS 5Y3's are still reasonable 20-30$ for an RCA or Tungsol, if you want to get a really tough, rattle resistant one get a bendix ($44): www.kcanostubes.com/products/382/NOS-Bendix-6106-5Y3WGT.htm

The recto in the Ghia has bits of metal and glass floating loose in the tube, I bet that's my rattle. Mike's website says he's out of stock on the Bendix 5Y3. I left him a message, he'll call back and I will be ordering at least a NOS 5Y3 for now.

Common amongst the Ghia's for the EL84's and 5Y3 to rattle. Tube dampeners are the fix. You'll be changing tubes all and won't get rid of the rattle. I have them on my Ghia, and I bought a set for my friend MattH's Ghia as his did the same thing.

Which tubes in the Gia do you put dampers on? It looks like 2 of the tubes are in metal cases so do those and/or the tubes inside them get dampers as well? Or just the 3 with exposed glass?

Not on the preamp tubes , which are under the metal cans (shields) Usually just on the EL-84 power tubes. You "could" put them on the preamp tubes , but the shield would need to be left off.
