Last night I set up a dual head setup with the Remedy and Maz Sr. Where I like to run the Remedy (hi level around 3 o'clock) even rolling the guitar down quite a long ways still produces quite a bit of crunch - it's glorious crunch, but not appropriate for every tune. So I set up the dual head arrangement and ran the Maz Sr. without an Airbrake, Master wide open and pre at around 1 o'clock. Oh man, it was very good. It really gave me about four different sounds - pristine clean rhythm, solo volume with a bit of hair, a nice crunch rhythm, and a great rock solo tone. For the music we're doing, I could not have asked for more. In fact, I didn't run my pedal board last night (got there late) so I had one footswitch to toggle the Headbone back and forth.
I also got to try something I've been wondering about. We were on this stage with a cover, which was somewhat of a tent shape above us. The effect was to capture the bass and drums and amplify them. I knew I was in trouble from the first chord, because I had set up the Remedy at the same volume as Wednesday's gig, and I could not hear it at all. But I had the Airbrake on 3 clicks, so I pushed it up to 2 clicks. Slightly better, but still could not hear it. Up to one click then. STILL I was having trouble. So in about the fifth tune I had a nice solo coming up, and I switched the Airbrake out of the circuit. Boy did that get their attention! I have to say, that last click really upped the level - after the tune the bass player comes over and says that was awfully loud, and I told him that all I could hear was the bass and drums, so they had a little conference there and turned down. The rest of the night was much better (and the Airbrake went back to 2 clicks).
But I have to say, that one tune sounded glorious - Remedy wide open through the Z-Best - holy tacos! ;D ;D ;D
