The Beano boost gets great reviews, most recently in Tonequest. Anyone ever try one with a Ghia?

No, but the very similar Keeley Java Boost w/ Ghia is a great combination!

Same with the ToneFactor Hellbilly (rangemaster/fuzz face-meets-germanium/silicon booster pedal), but then again, same with all my pedals.

I use Beano when playing my Ghia at gigs. My band members are very happy, especially after a Mexican meal.

I'm running a Luxury Drive. I find myself leaving it on 95% of the time. Really fattens up the tone.

The Java Boost matches up well with the Ghia so I suspect the Beano would also.

I've used my Beano with my Ghia. I love it. I also really like it with my Route 66. I have all of Analogman's pedals, and the Beano is one of my favorites, with the right amp. The Ghia is definitely "right". I use both amps through a Z-Best 2X12 with the stock V30/GH30 speakers.

Thanks PDW. I understand that a lot of people use the Beano in front of an overdrive pedal, I think because the Treble Boost style pedals favor an already slightly overdriven tone? Is that your set-up? Thanks!

Ampaholic, No, when I use my Ghia I always use only one pedal at a time. The Ghia has such great crunch from 9:00 and up on the volume knob that it blends perfectly with the Beano. Other pedals that in my opinion just kill with the Ghia are the Xotic RC Booster and the Analogman Juicer. The RC lets me add just enough bass boost to fatten up single coils. From noon to 2:00 or so the gain knob adds thickness without losing clarity. I keep the volume around noon. The Juicer not only adds compression, but also a level boost and a slight treble boost as well. I keep the knob between 9:00 and 11:00. I can't say enough good things about this pedal. Again, though, I only use one at a time.

I agree with pdw that I get the best tone with my Ghia using a single pedal; more than one seem to dilute the tone. I really like the Time Machine Boost (60's or 70's mode) for boost, the analogman juicer for slight compression and slight boost and a Klon for distortion. I am waiting (months) for a Zendrive. BTW the TMB is the best pedal I've used with my Mini!

pdw, do you find that the RC Booster maintains better clarity along with having a solid low end with the Ghia than a germanium boost like the beano?

Peach, Here's my take on the RC vs. the Beano. They both sound great with the Ghia, but of course they are very different. The RC is much more versatile. It has the ability to fatten the low end and maintain clarity. It's still more of a "fattening" than a "focusing" though. The treble control can add presence without getting shrill. Both the treble and bass controls are magnificently voiced. Then you've got that great gain control that can thicken up the sound without getting muddy. My Beano is a toggle switch model with bass, mid, and treble settings. With the Ghia and my Strat, the bass setting sounds best to me. It definitely brings out natural harmonics and adds more "zing" than the RC. The mid and treble settings sound good too, BUT are much more dependent on the Ghia's volume being up near the 12:00 or higher zone, or it thins the sound out too much. Also the knob on the Beano needs to be at 12:00 or higher. The RC sounds great with the Ghia no matter where the volume control is set.

Cool. Thanks for the rundown pdw! That RC sounds like a great pedal.
