I've got a new Remedy on the way. I'm looking for speaker sugestions for my 212 cab. It's like a oversized 212 Bogner style and can run open or closed back. Currently I have a pair of G12H30 Celestions in it with the back open. What do you guys like with the Remedy for the classic rock Marshall tones?

History doesn't lie.
Greenbacks or the EVH Blackbacks is what I'd replace them with.
Just guessing your cab will sound plenty good as is.

Would you suggest Greenbacks for my Z Best with a Remedy head? I dunno, I'm not sure if I wanna mess with it, but I'm also all for optimizing the tone.

Just my opinion here and although I know lotsa folks have put other speakers into their Z-Bests with great success, to me it was designed and voiced for the speakers that are in it. The theile port is a pretty specific thing to get right and any changes in speakers will mean the cab isn't optimized for those speakers. So for me, my answer is leave the Z-Best as is. But by all means, grab another and try it or a 4-12 with greenies or a closed back 2-12 with greenies. Just leave at least one Z-Best stock! JMHO of course.

I dunno, I couldn't ever really see myself doing anything like that to the Z Best. It seems so perfect as it is. Perhaps when I get a Mazerati GT I can resign my Remedy to an Avatar 212 with Greenbacks. For now, it sounds great.

I like the Celestion G12H with Strat's it just works for me. I do not like the Vintage 30's they are too bright in my opinion. I have never tried the Z best but from what I read and researched the Vintage 30 and the G12H work really well together. The Greenbacks are also a good choice for the Classic Rock Marshall tone.

Well I just got back from a 3 hour LOUD rehearsal, first one with the Remedy. I'm pretty amazed by the little Z. The other guitarist I play with uses a 71 metal panel 50 watt Marshall and the remedy was right in the same tone zone as the Marshall, except that he was having to attenuate down while I was straight into the cab and crankin! i have been using a Germino lead 55, which is an outstanding amp too, but by the time I cut it back 12 db with a Hotplate it lost all it's punch and thickness.
anyhow, back to the topic, I used the 212 cab with G12H30 Anniversaries tonight, and it was really tight and punchy, with my Strat it was very "Hendrixy" and the Les Paul was thick with a bite, very ZZ Top type tone. I think I might try some sort of Greenbacks, maybe some of the Scumbacks everyone raves about just to get a little more creamy tone going, but until I do the H30s are sounding pretty darn good!

Greenbacks are the sound of 70s rock, the remedy is a classic 70s rock style amp.
Nuff said.

If you play Humbuckers, use some sort of OD in moderate amounts, do lots of chugging and drop tuning, the Weber Silver Bells with Pre Rola doping should be considered.

Just to follow up, I ended up scoring a pair of Scumback H75 speakers for my cab and they sound great with the Remedy. Compared to the G12H30s the Scumback H75s have smoother highs (especially when gained up) and the mids are richer and more complex. The G12H30s (which are great sounding speakers too) sound sort of flat in comparison. i highly reccoment the Scumbacks for the Remedy if you're going for classic Marshall tones.

What kind of pickups do you use?
I've found I like G12H30 for single coils...but I can't stand them for humbuckers.

I like the Scumback H75s but I'm thinking I may still try some 25 watt Greenbacks because the highs are still a little much even with the smoother Scumbacks.

I use a 2x12 with greenbacks (mojotone g12s) with my Remedy and it's fantastic.

Update : I tried Vintage 30s with the Remedy and it sounds great! I think I prefer the V30s over the greenbacks. Next experiment: G12H30+V30 in my 2x12 cab.

Another update: Although I'd like to try Scumbacks I am really enjoying a single G12M in my 1x12 or a G12M+G12H30 in my 2x12. I have a zbest on the way, I can't wait to hear how it sounds.

I played around with different speakers in my Z-Best and I think the Doctor had it right from the start. If you play a Z-Best stay with the stock speakers that it was designed around.
But for an open backed cabinet I am going to buck the trend and recommend the Eminence Wizard or Governor. The Wizard is just beautifully balanced and does everything well. The Governor is their take on the Vintage 30 with better low end and less honky mids. Both are reasonably priced and made in Kentucky.

The Wizard is their version of the G12H.
My V30 with the Remedy was very aggressive sounding. More hard rock type stuff. Otherwise, it's greenbacks for me.

I got my ZBest today. Looks like a Heritage G12-65 and a G12H-30. I wonder if the G12-65 originally came in the cab?? EDIT - The Heritage G12-65 is stock in this Z Best cab!
