So apart from the fact that the new Mini-Z head will have a built in attenuator, are there any other technical specification changes from the combo to the head? Any circuit adjustments in terms of gain? I am looking at three Z amps now, but since I live in an apartment for the majority of the year now, I think a Mini-Z head may actually be the more sensible ticket to satisfy my Z lust for this year. Also, anybody else with info feel free to chime in! Oh, BTW doc, any personal recommendations for speaker choice?

Hey Mattman, I live in an apartment too and my Mini Z is too loud to play inside. I would think the new head with attenuator is the only way to go for an apartment, unless you're REALLY friendly with your neighbours. Mine are an 86 year old man and an agoraphobic who has never been seen. Never comes out of his apartment, literally. So, I don't play any amps at home. New house will be built in about 4 months. Can't wait.

Taz, I can feel your pain. I feel that attenuating my Marshall in the apartment down to bedroom levels would be a waste of power tubes, so I play the Maz attenuated only a bit and it works out just fine. I am friendly with the neighbors, but out of courtesy I try not to crank it too loud during the night. I find the Mini-Z to be an attractive proposition for the same reason you do. I think it would be really cool, and even though pricing has not been announced I am sure it will be a great value (as are all Z amps!) I have never had the chance to play one, but from the clips I have heard I am very impressed. I figure the head and a nice 1X12 cab would make my Xmas a very merry one indeed!

The Mini Z head has the same great tone of the 1x8 combo. Aside from the built in attenuator you'll be able to use 4 or 8 ohm cabs with it....should be very apartment friendly.

Another question...
If it has the Airbrake, can it be turned all the way down, thus giving it a load and then use the speaker out to slave the Mini Z head into a larger amp?
If so, that is a great solution to get that Mini Z tone and feel that we love out of a higher volume amp!
