Alright guys, I need some advice. I'm really interested in tomtheguitarguy's mini z. I have a question: Right now, I've got a Fender Twin Reverb that I love (lots of headroom). My problem is that I don't wanna have to lugg that dude around to practices and studio sessions. I want a small, yet gig-worthy, quality amp. I'm also looking at a Fender Blues Junior with the Bill M mod. It's not quite as small but its got some more headroom. While I luuuv that nasty overdriven sound, I'd like to be able to have a clean sound at my disposal. Oh, and not that it really matters, but I'm into more experimental, melodic indie stuff (I know a lot of you are into blues/rock). I know I can always mic the Mini Z for gigs, so I've got that option. That's it. Thanks for bearing with me, but I'm trying for that "informed decision." I'm all ears.

The Mini doesn't have a whole lot of clean sounds in it..The Doc refers to it as a stomp box with a speaker..You can probably get it to clean up a little by backing off your guitar's volume, but with a "rated" output of 5 watts, there isn't a lot of room to play around with...It is a wonderful sounding thing, perfect for studio situations where power tube breakup without high decibels is desired..As far as an all around gigging amp, it may not serve your needs, especially if you're used to the "Twin" sound...JMO
good luck..T rock..

Ditto. To get clean sounds at a gig, you'd have to set it at polite apartment volumes and mic it. Which maybe you could do, but it might be difficult on a small stage with a drum kit nearby.
Carmen Ghia combo? MAZ 18 Jr? Galaxie? The EZ-G40, in a few months? If you want a Twin Reverb-like tone but lighter, maybe something like the EZ-G40, a Fender '65 Deluxe Reverb reissue or Custom Vibrolux reissue, or a Fargen Blackbird.
The Blues Junior idea would be cheaper.
Good luck!
