I took the Mini with me to rehearsal this week--just for some stereo S&G, along with another amp. About an hour in, I unplugged the other amp. We're in a small rehearsal studio, and much to my surprise, the Mini not only sounds great, it's also loud enough. And I mean GREAT!
This is with volume straight up noon, with RC Booster, short delay and T-Rex reverb in front. That top end cuts just enough. I'm amazed and loving it.
My guitar partner and I switched for an hour, and he would not stop raving when we were done. I think he's just about ready to buy a Z.
Just thought I'd share.

I often play my Mini in stereo with my Route 66. It's a great small club crunch sound with the 66 on about 9 oclock all knobs and the mini on 12 oclock. The 66 fills in the beef and the Mini adds the top end crunch and grind. Might try it in a club we are playing tomorrow night that is often quite empty. I also run the delay through it with this set up for a nice dry and wet. Really cool.

Well, I did run the 66 and Mini in stereo tonight and it was really cool. Great small cllub crunch. Ran the mini on about 10 oclock and ran the 66 into my 1-12 at about 10 oclock all knobs. Funny thing was, it was like I could hear the mini louder than the 66 so one time I hit the standby switch on the 66 and all the "girth" just dropped away. The 66 just thickened up everything and the mini provided the top end grind and some of that El84 chime. With some help from my fatboost I could wind back for a decent clean. My Foxrox TZF sounds amazing in stereo for any modulation and I ran the delay through the mini only. Pretty fun!

Tas, I noticed the same thing--it seems like the Mini is producing all of the sound until you turn off the other amp. It's almost like when you disconnect the bass driver in a stereo speaker. But sometimes in band-in-a-small-room context, the cut of the Mini is fine by itself. Gets dirty pretty quick, though. I'm trying all of the combinations now too--Mini with Ghia, Mini with Maz, Mini with my son's Line 6 Spider 30 (makes the Line 6 sound a lot better IMO).

But sometimes in band-in-a-small-room context, the cut of the Mini is fine by itself. Absolutely! I play in a classic rock band as well and we often rehearse in the drummers living room. The Mini is plenty in that context, and the tone is great. I have gigged the mini in a large room (500 people) miked. Wasn't ideal as it sounded pretty thin on stage but I could hear it and according to the sound-guy it sounded AWESOME out front. Great analogy with disconnecting the bass drivers, that's exactly what it's like. Mini Z-you complete me! ;D

OK, guys... a basic question. I've got a Maz Jr NR with a Z 2x10 cab and love it. I've also got a Zvex nano (1/2 watt and very interesting) and a Mini Z. I was thinking about selling the Mini to help with other gear purchases, but after reading this post, I think I'll try stereo with my Maz and Mini. My basic question is... Do I just need a splitter cable, or is there some sort of box I'll need to go the stereo route? Also, any recommendations on settings for the amps?

I just use the two outs on my T-Rex reverb pedal, so I guess a splitter cable would be fine. I get my basic sound on the Maz, then roll up Mini until it's audible. To my ears, in a stereo setup the Mini seems to provide some more cut and dimension, especially in a smaller room and at lower volumes. Of course, the little guy will lag behind if you're really cranking the Maz.
That Nano thing sounds really cool on the demos I've heard...

Thanks, Cosmo. I'll noodle around with it and see what fun sounds I can get.
The nano is pretty cool if you're looking for heavy crunch at low volume (although it's surprizingly loud for 1/2 Watt). It's not "Z-good", but sounds surprizingly good (especially through my Z 2x10)
