Hey, Just picked up this cool, old-style Z 1x12. Once I get the grill cloth sorted out, it'll even match! Came with Cel. Blue......which I know I'd pop in a heartbeat, so I'm gonna remove and sell it. So.......anyone running a 1x12 with the EZ? Suggestions?

I'd personally go with a Weber Alnico 50 watter. Maybe you'll get to use the bass knob using a 112.

Well instead of what you "Should" use, how about a vote of what "Not" to use?
My 1x12 Z is a Gold. It's not a bad combination, but its not optimal to my ears. I can't explain it specifically...just feels like the speaker is fighting against what the amp wants to sound like. I do use it in pinch when the 4x10 just isnt practical... a 1x12 is so much smaller and lighter.
Its funny that I thought the Gold would be my favorite speaker, but I like my EZG with the 4x10 and my KT with the Zbest. My Gold is just for smaller gigs but not as "1st tone choice".... Prob just havent found the best head for it yet.

I think you hit the nail on the head in your description - they are trying to do two entirely different things. I have a nice Weber Alnico California here that I bet would sound stellar with the EZG. But any American sounding speaker should sound pretty good with it if you ask me. That said, we played it through the Z-Best at Z-Fest last year, and it was freaking AWE INSPIRING.

Iv'e used it with a new Jenson, The 100w model....EVM 12L, and the Weber California. They all worked great. If your really loud I'd try the EV. It's really hard to blow these!

Ok.....
I've done a few gigs with an Emi Red Fang in the 1x12 (only thing I had that wouldn't explode! lol).
So far, so good.
I don't like it as much as the 4x10, but it works for lower volume situations. (If you read my "Loud Amp" thread, you'll see my issues).
At tonight's gig, I was actually able to crank the EZ enough to get a nice blues OD with my 335.......no pedal needed. We were outside, so it wasn't overwhelming.
Actually was able to get the bass knob abobe 9pm with the smaller cab, too! lol
Not sure the Fang is where I'll stay, ultimately. Maybe try a 12-65 or similar. My taste with BF style amps seems to be British, but full-range.

I finally got a cab with a G12-65 in it for my EZG. I didn't really want to have the big 4x10 cab, and the g12-65 seemed to be Doc's second favorite for that amp.
I'm impressed. it is far better than the 2x10 i was using. I really like the way the highs come through better with the 12. Some may disagree, but i like a chimy tone, especially when I'm using single coils. the 10s were nice but they were too heavy in the mid range for my taist. they make for a very smooth sound from the EZG. I love doc's 10s, and maybe i need to try my ezg through 4 of them instead of 2. I really like how they sound with my other amps.
All in all I think that this G12-65 really makes the EZG shine.
I'd like to try another recommendation that Doc gave me and that is to use a 2x12 open back cab with a G12-65 and a G12H. he said that make a good combination for the EZG also.

I use my EZG with a 1x12 cab with a G12H (being very careful with the volume, of course...). I think it sounds killer. But I like it best with an open back 2x12 with two G12H's in it. The Doc is right. It sounds amazing with an open back cab with 12's.
I too could not bond with the 2x10 Z cab and the EZG. Way to middy and not enough high end for me.

I've got an G12/65' clone here just waiting for my EZG when I get it but if you want to get even cleaner tone than that, get an EV 12 m. None cleaner but none heavier either. I think a tone tubby alnico could work nice when broken in as well. Just my 2 cents worth.

Dr. Z 1x12 with the G12 65 speaker is great!
Maybe the only concern might be headroom if you are blasting the amp all the time. But most players don't run 50 watt amps at full volume anyway- which this setup will take by the way, just not as easily as some multi speaker combinations.

Here's my combo. It's an old style 1X12 and an old style 2X10 running together. Both speakers sound great separate but are unbelievable when run together. The best of both worlds. A deluxe reverb running with a vibrolux.

Hey KFKM - Just curious what speakers are you using in your 2x10 and 1x12 cabinets? That looks like a nice setup. ;D

Hey freddieg,
The 2X10 combo has the Dr Z 10" speakers that came with it and the 1X12 cabinet has a G12 Vintage 30 installed. I picked up both cabinets used and that is how they came. They both sound awesome alone and together. I do really like the sound of the 1X12 by itself as it is nice and beefy.

Hey all. Just received my Z 1x12 convertable w/ G12 65 speaker. I love it! Have it in open-back mode, & it's more than I was hoping for. Tele straight in...whew! Now, to narrow down my search for an "O.D./distortion" Z amp compliment to A/B with it. May wait till some of you guys test-run the Monza before deciding.

Celestion gold sounds good but not the best voicing Big Ben 15" HUGH and really good old school-thats what they use on the Z test on the website.

Been using mine with a J-designs semi-open back cab with a WGS Blackhawk (100W version). Nice full sound, sparkly, yet, no icepick. A win/win situation!.

Just got a used EZG and plugged it into the standard Z 1 x 12 cab and had to remove the rear panel! Sounds awesome, I love the compactness and huge tone. Only problem is keeping the grill cloth from fluttering in the aural breeze! Removing the back panel helped, but would take any ideas...Actually the amp has tan cloth, the speaker salt n peppa, wouldn't mind getting things to match!...lol
