Just bought Mini and was curious what Z cabs would be a good match bearing in mind that I really don't want to lose any clean headroom . I was really quite suprised that the Mini has about twice the clean headroom that I thought it would have!
.............thanks in advance,

I've used my Mini through a Z 2x10 cab. It sounded good but I think the Mini-Z sounds best through it's own 8" speaker/cab combination. There's something about how Z tuned the Mini's cab that is lost when using other cabs. That's not to say that it doesn't sound good, I just think the Mini on it's own sounds best.
As usual, tone is subjective & your mileage may vary.
Enjoy the Mini!

I completly agree with prowler on this. I have played my Mini through my Z 2-10 and through a Fender 1-12 closed back cab. You may gain a little volume, but you lose some of that tight punchy tone that the Mini Z has on it's on.

I took my mini and Z best to a gig and miked it. I ended up unplugging the Z-best and plugging back into the mini cab after one set. The 8 inch worked so well. I agree, the mini sounds great on it's own. But it is really fun to plug into the Z best to get that low volume /quad box sound to rock out to. There is more cut and clarity with the 8 inch though.

I just got a mini last week, and immediately tried it in my friends Zbest 2x12 and a Marshall 4x12 with 25 watt greenbacks. Man, Did it sound the balls through both of them! I could actually hear the greenbacks break up. I preferred the way that it sounded with the Zbest 2x12. The 8" weber in the mini sounds great, but I prefer a bigger cab for low end.

Well I tried the mini through a Dr Z 4-10 box this weekend and thought it sounded fantastic. It really smoothed it out but still retained that edgy scratchy kinda grit that makes the mini so cool. With a bit deeper bottom end. I love the bottom end that the 8 inch cab gets though. Quite amazing really.

One speaker cab to try is the Vox 4x8. It is quite rare as only about 750 were made, but they pop up on eBay from time to time at about $250-300. It is a closed back 8 ohm cab with 4 Celestion blue 8's.

Just keep in mind that the DR said in a thread a few weeks ago that the Mini is rated 4ohms...

There is also an 8 ohm tap in the Mini & it's easy enough to install it. Any good amp tech will be able to do the job. If you have the 8 ohm tap installed remember to use only one output at a time.

I got my Stang Ray 212 cab w/ Celestion Blues today. The head didn't show, so I plugged the Mini into it.
WOW, what a difference! Sounds really great, got a nice bite to it, the sound got bigger, it sounds like a real full sized amp, now. I love this Dr. Z tone, can't wait for the Stang Ray head to get here.

Holy cow, a mini into a 2/12 with Blues! That has GOT to be getting very close to a Brian May tone!

I tried a mini through my Orange 4x12, and it sounded very very good! But that cab is really dark compared to most, so it drained some of the mini's bite. A nice tone, but different.

The mini likes Dr Z's 4-10 box too. I think Prowler may have stated this before. Keeps a bit of that "scratchy" vibe.

I ran my Mini through the 2 G12H30s in my KT combo, and it did sound really good!
I believe the Weber in my Mini is busted, so I'm going to replace it with another. I'm looking for a more smooth and compressed sound (like what I hear on the sound clips), so I'm going to try the alnico Weber 8" (the stock one is ceramic I've been told). It's only $35, so I guess it can't go wrong.
