First time poster with a few questions I'm interested In the Mini mainly for it's wattage. I want to be able to saturate the tube before the neighbors call the cops and not after. So i'm not interested in loud at all. My other concern is how it likes pedals, specifically a POD XTL modeling pedal. My main guitar is a Variax 700 which is also all digital. I also own a Dean Icon PZ (w/piezo bridge pickup) and will probably own a Dean 79 ML by the end of the summer so i'm not completely digital. Right now I practice through a Vox DA 20 (I've bypassed the preamp with the POD) with 2x8's and am getting some pretty decent tones, but i'm hoping the addition of a tube will add some warmth my over all tone is missing. Also considering the 2x10's cab. This is where the Mini comes in. I like the idea of being able to push a tube to the sweet spot without blowing the windows out of the house. I do have a PA (how i found out about the cops ) so if volume is ever required I can mic it. I've only gigged 3 times and it's not something I seek out so this is mainly for me with at home use. I like zeppelin and floyd the best, but also practice some ac/dc and iron maiden. Sorry for being so long winded, but any insight into my first venture into tubes is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Try one first because they may not be high in wattage, but they are still fairly loud (especially the combo). I have not played the head with the attenuator yet, so I can't comment about that...

Based on what said I think the Mini is exactly what you are looking for. I think you you be better suited with the head and a cab than you would be with the combo. The combo comes with a 8" speaker and doesn't have the built in attenuator. The attenuator allows you to get the sound you want at the volume you want. I play my Mini with a 2-10 cab or a 1-12 cab, either one gives me a sound I am happy with but if I had to choose one I think the 2-10 compliment it better.
As for the POD XTL, I am not sure. Don't have one. I don't gig my Mini at all but you could definitely mic it.

Think I'm gonna hold off for a bit. I got a Valve Jr combo for my G/F and tried the POD with it. I didn't care for the VJ out of the box, but the second the POD got involved it blew my Vox away and started to scare my peavey so I ordered the head and cab. I'm sure it's nowhere near the quality of a mini, but it will give me a chance to learn a bit more about tubes and pedal configurations. Plus I can get the Dean ML next month instead of end of summer. I'll take another look at Dr Z next year.

Those little Epi's will scare a lot of amps, after a few cheap mods have been installed...
Z's don't run from nuthin' tho... ;D

A few cheap mods, replacing the tubes with teslas' and getting a decent speaker (the lady luck is awful), I use a weber 12a125s 25 watt alnico it is capable of some seriously luscious tone. you can even do the old trick of plugging it into a quad for that huge tone. A Dr Z it isn't but for the money it's a winner. I too have a pod that I use late at night for noodling but in the end tube modeling just doesn't do it for me, I just can't seem to get that guitar, amp, speaker dynamic feel that you will never get with computer simulation.
