Is anyone here using the Mini with a Humbucker equipped guitar? I'm curious as to how the amp reacts to the higher output of a humbucker. Any mushy-ness to the tone?

I actually think the Mini-Z responds better to my higher output pickups - humbucker or single coil.
I did a lot of recording with the mini, which I unfortunately can't share until the album is released (which is on an extended delay).
Not that we're bigtime, but the singer/songwriter of the band is very careful and professional about his songs and copyrights.
I'll share when I can!

I'm using a Grosh Set Neck with custom humbuckers. I've only had my mini for two days but I think it sounds fabulous with humbuckers. If it gets too squishy or farty, lowering pickups may help or various pre amp tubes. Mine is the GT12AX7M which everyone seems to like but the Doc got a bad batch so they may be unreliable. I've also tried it with my old Jem 777 which is much "flatter" than my grosh and that sounded great too. ZZ top and Led Zep with the buckers and the mini!!! yeah rock on!

Interesting you say that. Have you noticed your Mini getting squishy or farty at all and if so was the easy fix just to lower the pickups a bit?

Haven't really felt the need to lower the pickup. I always have my neck pickups very low anyway, but my bridge is quite high. With the mini cranked there is alot of gain. I wouldn't say it gets mushy, just gainy, if that makes sense? I think too we have to remember we are talking about 5 watts and an 8 inch speaker here. Through the Z-best it is very smooth with great clarity. It really is growing on me by the hour. As far as the humbucker vs single coil question, I think it's just a matter of the sweet spot being a notch back for humbuckers than for singles. Both sound great to my ears. I think it's outstanding for what it is and it definitely has that Z signature in there. Plus it's quite dynamic, even though it so low powered. That's the class A working I guess. I can think of so many applications for this amp, ie: in-stores, coffee lounges/cafes, teaching, theatre gigs, rehearsals in small rooms, recording, practising, quiet gigs, etc etc. Definitive answer is I think it's great with humbuckers, at least the ones I have tried.

Ah...Street Busking is another application for the mini I forgot and if my publishing doesn't pick up I might be doing a lot of it!!!!

I know this is an old topic, but I think humbuckers work great with the mini-z. I used it to record "Santa Clarita" on this page: www.myspace.com/theblindrobinsThe guitar was a Robin Avalon with Rio Grande humbuckers. I ended up switching those out for Burstbuckers later, but I thought that they did a good job on that clip. That Mini-Z was screaming! There are no effects - just guitar straight into cranked Mini-z

I use a Gretsch Country Club with Filtertrons with my Mini. I love it to death!

I use my Mini-Z with a recent Les Paul and a few other motley humbucker-equipped guitars. I wouldn't call it mushy, but of course I get a more solid low end running into my Z-Best than using the internal 8" speaker.
This is a fun amp. Others have remarked how it yields a surprisingly Marshall-like grind when cranked up, and I certainly agree.
