Greetings gents, this afternoon I left a deposit on a '06 1974x combo which sounds & looks GREAT. Need some help here boys, the Marshall is going for 1499.99 (used) & the Remedy is at 1799.99 (new). These are Canadian prices.......I'm leaning towards the Dr.Z b/c of the half-power circuit which is a killer feature.

Both cool amps. The Z has the half-power, but also is way more reliable. AND you can call the designer and talk to him!

Being as unbiased as I can, the Z is constructed better, has better transformers, is more versatile, and just has that certain "something" that makes you want to play and play and play (when you're not painting the house..... ). That, and you can talk to the designer and the service is top notch (not that you're gonna need it, it's built like a tank).

Hi; I have had the 1974x and I have a Remedy.. .Marshall has the Marshall tone but I always got covered up buy the rest of the band and I had the extension CAB too !!! My Remedy is never drowned out and it's never been to 40 watt land ( 20 watts only) .. The Remedy is my fave' in 50 amps and 40 + years of playing.. Reliable , tonefull, and Flexible... W/ the 1974x you also have to keep the trem connected all the time .. GO FOR THE Z & NEVER LOOK BACK... IMO!!! ;D

I was really interested in the 1974x and other 18w Marshall clones for a while.. but I decided that, though I love 'that' Marshall sound, I didn't want to be stuck with it. I'd say the Remedy is more versatile (I don't have the Remedy, but my amp gets the Marshall sound and many others).
Also Z's are more reliable, better built, and have better backing from the manufacturer.

Thanks alot guys but this hasn't been easy for the fact that I've been wanting to pair up the 1974X ext cab I've had for a while. I told the chap at the shop we might be ordering a Dr.Z on monday instead of bringing the Marshall home.......Gave myself the weekend to make up my mind, I had the Marshall home last week for 5 days. Brought it back due to the speed dail not working & maybe a retubing job. Thanks again guys!!

VW to BMW comparison.
My Opinion is clearly the Remedy.

Go for the Remedy, I had the extension cab and the 1974x ....It's not near my Remedy w/ one cheapie jesen spkr.... Go with whatever but IMHO Remedy blow most everything I have ever owned away ( including a 1974 x w/ extension cab) witch used to get drowned out by my band....I play the same stuff W/ Remedy @ 20watts and never have a problem...IMHO Z= Tone Heaven.. ;D the problem With Marshalls well you just had one.. and the trem must be hooked up all the time to turn it OFF!!

Something else that may help you decide: the 1974x had a problem with mains transformer in the first 42 weeks of 2006. Week 43 and later were updated with a better transformer. The old one would short out and blow the main fuse. If you have to pay for this repair, look at approx $300-$350 parts and labor. I hoped that helped
