I posted this in the Ask The Experts, but afterwards realized maybe it could be answered here.
I have a friend who has a Fender Deluxe. He's been lusting for a Route 66 but just doesn't have the money. He asked if he could swap out the 6L6 tubes and put in KT66.
Is it possible? And what kind of tonal variation will he get?
He knows it won't be Route 66 - there's just no substitute! But was wondering what to expect. And what the bias should be?
Thanks a bunch!

I am not an expert (hopefully one will eventually weigh in here) but my understanding is that the KT66 is an extended version of the 6L6... and that it essentially has a 6L6 in it. So you can swap them. But, if the amp is designed for 6L6's... it will not likely take advantage of the additional capabilities inherent in the KT66.
