I hope this question hasn't been asked too many times but here goes.......I'm looking for a speaker to put in my 112 open back cab to be matched with my Mazerati. I'm hoping to get some suggestions for a speaker that would be a little on the dark side. I have a few pedals but mostly I just use my tele without any effects. I find the highs to be hard to tame at times. So I was wondering if a speaker change would help. I'm currently using a Tonker which I like but it can be harsh sounding at least to my ear anyway. Thanks in advance for your help!

I went through a bunch of speaker swapping when I first bought my Mazerati 1x12 combo, and I settled on a G12H30 with a Beam Blocker.. seems like the perfect speaker for this amp, IMO. Some others I tried were a V30, Wizard, Greenback, alnico Tone Tubby, Bag End E12R, Cannabis Rex, and a Red Fang... The G12H seemed the most nuetral, balanced, and smooth on the high end. I'm not sure I would call it a dark speaker (like the TT, for example), but I play a strat with Suhr pickups and don't find the amp to be top-heavy at all. A lot of it has to do with your preamp tubes, as well as your guitar cable (especially if you're plugging straight in to the amp) - so you may want to look beyond just the speaker.

I have a Monster Cable, for jazz I think, and it is pretty dark compared to Quantum or Spectraflex.

I found the Weber Blue Dog 50 watt to work the best in my Mazerati combo. I was on the brink of selling it until I can upon the Blue Dog. Glad I didn't. The amp is awesome now!

I don't have a Mazerati, but I am jonesing for one.
I have a Carmen Ghia and an Rx that I have been running through a couple of cabinets loaded with Eminence Cannabis Rex speakers. Love the sound. I am loving the CG so much I am thinking about trading the Rx for a Mazerati. (Hard choice - since I got the C-Rex's, the Rx sounds great.)
The C-Rex is a darker speaker than some, but has a nice full, round sound. You might lose some jangle, but I imagine the tone control can compensate for much of this.

I would give a 15" speaker a try. I'm pretty sure it'll sound much bigger and warmer. I'm using a eminence big ben with my mazerati.

3 speakers that i liked with my Mazerati were: Red Fang, Weber reconed P12N and EVM12L. i tried my then stand-by speakers like G12h-30/1230, ToneKing, original cone Rola version of P12N and others and settled on the afore mentioned 3 speakers. out of the 3, P12N was the darkest (mostlikely due to the recone), then EVM and Red Fang was the brightest (but not painfully so).

Was it the EVM12L 200 watter?

1+ for the Celestion Gold. My mazerati really came alive with blues and the power handling of the gold makes it perfect for people looking for the same sound in a 1X12. Also try checking out lavacable.com/ they have great cables at reasonable prices, that would help with alot of the brightness. Jordan
