anyone used these type of solidstate rectifier ? apparently solidstate gives a couple more wattage and more headroom but also takes away some of the good old sag i have a pretty good valve rectifier with lots of sag but would like to trye out solidstate to for a different feel or sound kinda like when i change the other tubes in amp around for different styles dunno if rectifiers do anything noticable to the overall sound in reality but ya gotto trye it all lol i asume bias will need adjustment due to slightly higher voltage but thats no problem oh finall question this may sound dumb but will the solidstate type that weber offer have any chance of giving unwanted microphonics due to it being dressed in a cobber can? its just a ac to dc "converter" as all rectifiers but gotto ask anyway

I have a Maz 38 1x12 combo and have a Weber Copper Cap as a backup. I put it in just to see if there was much of an audible difference and I didn't notice a whole lot, so I put my NOS recto back in. I would verify with the Doc before getting one though because I know there are certain amps that aren't compatible with them. Usually they are his 2 x EL84 tube amps but you don't want to risk damaging something unknowingly. Have fun & good luck. "a" Steve

Yes, the Doc says you should not use them with his 2 x el84 amps.

Hey SC I noticed afterward you have the Z28 listed at the bottom of your profile. I'm not sure about that amp (6V6?). Maybe ask the question under the Z28 category or "Ask Myles". Those tubes may be alright and only the EL84 duo's are the concern. Re the microphonics, we have some "pro" tour guys on here that use Weber Copper Caps in there touring amps so that should quench any concern re microphonics or other issues.
