Hi, I posted about this in "ask the experts", but I thought it might get more views here. I have been playing through a '65 Super Reverb for the last 22 years and it's arguably the best sounding blues amp I have ever heard. Mine is very special and I have played through quite a few and have looked for a backup, but never found another quite like it. The reverb is to die for. I bought a MAZ38 2 x 10 2 weeks ago and love it. The reverb, while sounding great, is much more scattered and natural sounding. Given that I play pretty darn clean, I like the spank and focused sound of the Super's reverb; I use just a bit of it to color my sound. I got the OK form the Doc to swap the reverb pan for a long one. I found a good, matching (as close as possible to the short 3 spinger in the MAZ) long, 2 spring Accutronics 4AB3C1B pan dated 1982 lurking in a Super Reverb I'm rebuilding. I changed the Chinese reverb driver tube out for an NOS Phillips Military 12AT7WC that is "hotter" and drives the tank harder. The sound is amazing, and I won't miss my Super's reverb at all. I'm very impressed! I need to buy a bag for the new longer pan and a set of reverb cables (the originals are too short) and it will be neat and look factory. For about $50 in parts and the cost of the NOS tube, the transformation is done.

Andy, this site has the 17" bag you're looking for, also has the new 17" accutronics 3 spring as well. Reverb is about $27 and the bag is $11. www.tubesandmore.com

I swapped a new long pan for my short pan in my Maz 38. No detectable difference to my ears. I did not change the tube though. It may be that the older pan just sounds better than the new ones, too.

Thanks for the link! The 2 spring long pan I am using sounds more "springy" and focused than the stock 3 spring short pan which was very smooth and diffused sounding. I tend to be real picky about reverb, but that's mostly likely from playing my Super Reverb for so long. The MAZ 38 2 x 10 does a great job of making me feel comfortable and I haven't been missing the Super.
