I noticed while playing a gig last night that by the last set my Maz38 was not playing clean at all. I had the master on about 3/4 and the volume over 1/4. I started noticing in the last set that there was a lot more hair there than should be. I opened the master all the way up and turned the volume down just a tiny bit. It should easily have been clean. Does anyone know why this may have been? This amp is about 3 weeks old. I put it on standby between sets.

Sounds like a tube.

I usually run my master wide open to get a clean tone, and I often notice that by last set the amp has a little hair on it even when running clean like that. I think it's just a matter of the power tubes cooking for a while and running warm, or at least that's what I always assumed. I've noticed this with different sets of tubes too.

Yes thats what I do but I wonder how I can keep the clean head room for the duration of the night.

i think it's just the nature of the el84 beast. a drummer i used to play with told me the other day that my Rx was his favorite amp ever because it would jsut keep getting louder and ballsier as the night went on and i'd never touch it. I wish there was a way to pre-heat them tubes so i get 4th set magic from the get go.
The best way to clean things up would be to roll the guitar volume back a tick or two. may need to add ticks as the night wears on but it should work and then just a couple ticks the other way for solo's.

It doesn't bother me that it gets a little dirtier as the night goes on. I just want to make sure nothing is wrong here.

ahh. I think I know what it is. I just installed new pickups in my tele. The bridge has the noisless virtual T hot dimarzio. When I hit down on some notes pretty hard I can drive some hair on the amp even at lower volumes. If I take it a little easier it cleans up nice. The pickup is pretty hot so I can see it driving a little hair on it. Kind of nice actually. I must have been grinding a little more than usual by the end of the night on saturday.

You just don't expect it with the master full open and the volume under 1/4. There was someone asking on here how to get early breakup on the Maz 38. I think I found out how.

Just a thought here; are you sure your fan is running? As transformers heat up they can cause changes in tone and output level. Your change sounds pretty drastic, but heat could be the issue.
I would try pugging into the low jack as well. That should clean things up a bit.
