I currently have a 2x12 cab with a weber blue dog and g12h30, and I'm thinking about swapping out the g12h30 for a greenback. How do they compare tonally, and what do you guys think of the greenback with your maz 38s?

I think you'll like it. I have the same combo, and I just pulled my G12H30, and replaced it with an Eminence Legend GB128 which is their take on the Greenback. Last year I put these in a buddys AC30 and was knocked out at how good they sounded right out of the box. The best sounding AC30 I've ever heard was equipped with old greenbacks. The Legend is essentially the same sound with 50watt power rating.
Either way, if you like a warmer woodier sound with smooth thick mids, but still kinda chimey, either one of these speakers will do it for you. I got the Emi because it sounds just as good or better IMO, better power handling, and its cheaper.

I am looking for two of these in 16 ohms, but they discontinued the 16 ohm version for some reason.

I actually work at Alpha Music in Va Beach, Va, and we have 4 of the discontinued 16ohm models in stock if you're interested. Harold

OK - verdict is in already. Harold was dead on with his description and recommendation of the Eminence Legend GB12s. The pair I installed today in a 2x12 open back Fender cab kick serious a$$. Sorry to sound like Beavis there, but I'm still jacked up from the test drive I just took. They really do sound like Greenbacks with a bit more punch (higher spl & power rating too), and match up great with both Maz 18 and Maz 38. Really nice top end with a big, tight bottom. That's kinda the way I like my women too, now that I think of it...
Anyhow, I digress: I was only able to crank for a short while, so I'm sure there's some breakin'-in left to do, but if they sound this great straight outta the box, that's a good sign.
Great call Harold! +1 for that recommendation.

another good mix is the g12h30 and the greenback. Matchless uses this combo and i'm pretty sure divided by 13 does in some of their rigs. very nice indeed.

I've got a Greenback in my Maz 38 1x12 combo. It was already installed when I bought the amp so I can't really compare to the stock speaker but I agree with the way Harold described it: nice thick mids but still chimey. I prefer the lower power speaker, gives me a little more ability to open up the Volume and Master since I play mostly small gigs.
