well I've still got the Maz 38 Senior 2X12 combo on loan from my music store and today they let me take out the Maz 38 senior head and Z 2X12 Z best cab for comparison. They also said that they would take back my Fender Twin, even though I've had it for 2 months. I have 30 days to return it no questions. So what they said is that I get the 30 days free and they'll charge m$50 rental for the second month. So its a done deal that I'm walking away with one of these Z's. My options will be purchasing either the combo or the head and cabinet or both. If I only purchase one or the other then I will immediately be ordering either the Prescription ES or the Stangray in head and 2X12 open back cab. Although I'm leaning towards the Stangray. With a special order I won't have the luxury of being able to borrow for a trial. If I special order I pretty much have to buy it. I wished the music store stocked more of these amps.

It does not matter in which order you buy Dr. Z amps. You'll end up with all of them eventually. (Don't ask me how I know this).

I'm playing around with both the combo and head right now and really like the head and cab except for one thing. The head is much noisier than the combo. The combo is almost dead quiet. The head has a nasty buzz. And the buzz gets worse the more you turn up the volume. The reverb on the combo does not make any noise no matter how much you turn it up. I haven't tried the Z best cab combined witht the combo speakers yet as I don't have a y adapter. Hopefully tommorrow I"ll track down a Y adapter and see how it sounds. If this is how the head sounds, buzz noise, then most likely I'll go with the combo and the Z best cab.

They both sound great....but I wouldn't like carrying a 2x12 Combo ANYWHERE. It amazes me that folks buy 2x12 or 4x10 "Combos"....not that they don't sound good....but what a pain to lug around. You will really like the Z-Best too....and if you want another Amp....just get another Head. Plus, if you could only ever get ONE Z set-up....a MAZ Senior on a Z-Best is the one! Mark

Mark I keep hearing complaints of the weight of the Maz 2X12 combo but I really don't find it that bad. Its noticeable lighter than that back breadking Twin I just got rid of. I'm fairly strong so it doesn't bother me.
