Dear Friends at Dr. Z, I'm an Italian owner of a fantastic Maz 18 Jr amp, the best amp I ever had, but I had a problem last month: I blew two fuses and I can't understand why. I took the amp to the technician and they only change the two final tubes (GT EL84S) and gave me it back perfectly working, but after about 20 days the problem came out again. I blew only the half ampere fuse not the 2 ampere one and this happens while I 'm simply playing at about half volume/gain. When I change the fuse the amp works again with no problems seemingly. I have no notice of particular troubles on my electric line and I 've been using many other electric devices such as computers, printers, scanner and so on. I also checked the DRZ 2 X !2 speaker and it seems OK to the technician. Could you please help me to solve this problem? I'm afraid it will come out a never ending story cause it's hard to explain to the technicians I have a problem since the amp seemingly works fine. Many advanced thanks Please forgive my poor English, and have a fine day Stefano

Stefano, your English is excellent.
There is one down side to producing an excellent amplifier such as the Maz Jr, and that is it relies on some other manufacturer's product (tubes) to get the job done. Some of the tubes we rely on aren't very good at all, so you need to be willing to change them out, sometimes even when they are nearly new.
There are a few different things that come to mind here. It could be one of your output tubes, or your rectifier tube, or your line voltage, or perhaps a loose pin on a tube socket... I suggest if the fuse blows again, take it in right then, don't replace the fuse - let the technician try to figure out why it has blown. That's his job, and some times it's a detective job for sure. But if he's any good he has developed techniques for doing just that.

Hy Made Man, thanks a lot for your answer, I will do as you told me, of course... but now I have a basic idea of what could happen to the amp. Have a fine day stefano
