I sold my SR NR last fall....... ever since then , I have missed the extra clean headroom that my JR NR doesn't have ( compared with the SR)
Also.......last weekend I played a reverb model in the local store and I was blown away with it.
Anyway, the verb model just seemed so much "cleaner" and fendery sounding...... I also felt like the on board Verb itself sounded better than any pedal I have tried. ( I own a trex roommate and really love it for my JR NR) The verb was just so "subtle" sounding. Compared with the NR model, I found the Verb model much more pleasing to my ears. I just felt like this was a whole different amp as compared with the NR model........
Most comparisons between NR and Reverb mention that the NR has a bit more gain to it and sounds a little more "nasty"............
For me, the reverb model had a more "polite" and punchier clean tone........in the Super Reverb department.
I am seriously thinking about a SR verb head..........Am I crazy? I just sold my NR.

James, You're not crazy. First of all, I love my reverb. Being a Fender guy for the most part, I want reverb. I even like to crank it a little a more than most people. I even turn it off once in a while. I always thought reverb made an amp smoother sounding. Just my two cents. Merry Christmas.

Thanks Bill..........merry christmas to you as well! Yeah, I think if someone is a reverb guy, they really hear some of that "smoothness" missing with a NR model. Not to say that the NR does not have its "mojo". I only just realized how much I missed it when I demoed the SR W verb last weekend.
Now I gotta find a good used one!

What a shame. I just about gave my 2X10 combo away in the fall.

I've never felt the need to try a NR model. I just love my reverb Z amps. Mainly for the improved blackface Fender tone. Can you imagine how good the Evan will sound??

I want to know exactly when excess gain and distortion became universally desirable.
I guess I'm showing my age, but I am not happy unless my amp is pumping out plenty of clear volume. I want to hear the click of the pick or the scrape of my fingers, I want to have the amp react to how hard I pluck, I want liquid transparency and swirl.
I want plenty of clear, tight bass. If everything is perfect, I want to live on that transition zone where I can get into some drive if I want, but can back off for crystal clarity.
Call me crazy.
