I'm considering trading my 2x12 in for a 1x12. The 2x12 config w/o reverb isn't as heavy as some but still too heavy for ease especially with no casters.
Has anybody A/B'd the 2x12 vs. 1x12? Thoughts?
Also, if you have good ideas on getting the amp around without bolting on casters let me know.

I have the 1x12 which I got because it covers most gigs and is a manageble size and weight. For a 2X12 just get a furniture dolly. That way you won't have to put casters on your amp which to me is a no-no. I still use a furniture dolly with my Maz 1X12 if I can't park close to the gig.

I have the 1-12 with a Tonker.....it can be unbelievably loud if needed. I have never got swallowed up in any band situation. On the other side, it can be as mellow as needed. I like the 1-12 for semi-ease of operation as I think Doc fills some of these with lead just to see who is eating their wheaties!....it is manageable but it is still hefty. But, it can do so many different things that the weight becomes a non issue. I liked it with the G12H but I really like the cleans and the "BIG" that you can get from the Tonker it sounds like a 4-12 if you need it to....great amp..

geobull,
If I had a 2x12 Maz 38 (and I nearly did), I'd get a road case to carry it around in; that'd solve one problem. Navigating stairs-- that's another issue altogether.

Geobull, I have used the Maz 38 1x12 combo for about three years now and l love the amp and hate the weight. So, I ordered the separate head and cab and am waiting for it to come in. If you look at a number of the posts over the past years many others have done this before me. I suggest you consider that option now as long as you are trying to slim down the combo weight.
I have the 1x12 extension cab for my combo that I use to get the 2x12 thing happening. So I am familiar with that sound. I ordered a 2x10 cab with my head cab that I have on order. I want to see which head cab combo I prefer and go from there. Though I bet I end up with two 1x12 cabs. Because I prefer the solid bottom end.
I have played out with the 2x12 and 1x12 combos, as well as the 1x12 cab with 1x12 combo, whew... I think whenever you put all your speakers in one cab it sounds better, but not worth the back break in my opinion. I think having the two or four speakers in one cab gets something going you don't have in separate cabs.
As for the casters... Just more weight. I purchase one of those gray delivery dollies at Lowes. The one that allows you to go vertical or horizontal. Seems like the best solution to me as I always seem to have a second amp, or a cab, or bag, or pa... to schlep as well.
