Well, after getting my MAZ Jr. NR combo with a Blue a little over a month ago and pounding on it pretty much non stop since then, I think I need to add a MAZ Sr. NR for the bigger gigs and when I want more headroom. The only question is what speaker setup should I go with; a 2x12 combo with Blues or a head and open back 1x12 cab loaded with a Gold? At first I was leaning more toward the Gold, but after playing the Jr. with a Blue for a while, I simpley love the tone I get. Perfect for country twang or classic rock grind. So, if weight and ease of carrying it around were not issues, which should I get, a 2x12 combo with Blues or a head/cab setup with a Gold? Feel free to chime in.

aj1169, I was in your same situation. I had a Maz 18 combo and I got a Maz 38 combo. I also added a Blue instead of the stock G12H. Sold the combos and got heads and cabinets. It is much easier for me. My 1X12 cabinet has a Blue in it and I would like to upgrade it to a Gold sometime, or maybe a Weber 50 watt Blue Dog Alnico. So now I have lots of combinations. It's easier also if I wanted to add another head. I can hear the call of the RX JR calling my name in the distance. ;D You just can't go wrong with the Maz 38. My all time favorite amp ever.

I have a ton of experience carrying gear....and those that know me, know exactly what I mean While I appreciate your dilema, it seems a bit off track.....meaning...you are considering a 2x12 COMBO....and then when you consider a Head & Cabinet set-up, you are thinking of only a 1x12 CABI would never buy a 2x12 COMBO anything....strictly from the weight and hassle factor. Why not think of it in the opposite....get either a MAZ Senior 1x12 C OMBO loaded with a Celestion Gold....OR....get a MAZ Senior HEAD and buy a 2x12 Z-Best or Z Open-Back 2x12. To me, since you already own a Junior NR 1x12 Combo this decision is a no-brainer...... get a Senior NR 1x12 Combo (with Gold) to match.... You may like that Gold so much you will replace the Blue in your Junior, and someday buy a Z 1x12 Extension Cab with a Gold to turn either Combo into a 2x12. at 4 ohms....sweet! See how easy that was? ;D Mark

Is the gold that much better than the stock 12 in the MAZ SR.? It sure should be because it ain't cheap! I've been on the verge of ordering one but the price makes me hesitate.

Hi, I have a 38 invasion with blues in a 2x12 combo config. It is big, but so am I... I'm always weary of 12" speakers that are too efficient. Especialy in 1x12 combos. My theory is that they tend to project too far, and are hard to hear on stage. Too me 2x12s are huge sounding and I like the reediness of the 15w blues. I bought my amp used at a good price. I might have gone with a 4x10 cab/head if I had purchased it new. I think it's better to play quieter and move lots of air on stage than to struggle with a high powered beamy single speaker . Just my $.02
I also highly recommend spending the dough to get a really good equipment cart.
