Well, as some of you know I traded my RxES off for a Maz Sr combo and I wasn't too happy with the Sr when I got it and I've been kind of regretting the trade.... I was in the middle of a deal with Curt, tele62, before he left to get his Eminence Red Fang... well, it came on Tuesday and I slapped it in. Wow!!
This amp went from almost being a disappointment after playing the RxES, to my #2 favorite amp with this minor change (the Ray is my #1 amp).
With the same settings I had for the G12H, the Red Fang was a bit darker so I had to add a little more top end. This was a good compairison of the two for me. The bottom end is fuller, not more, just fuller or rounder. The mids are less "punchy" and a bit smoother. And the speaker breaks up much sooner than the stock G12H (which I personally like). With the stock speaker, I never heard the Marshall tone everyone else said was in there, but with the red fang it's there and is rich and nice sounding when really cranked (maybe lacking a little bass).
Best speaker, for the money, out there IMO and an improvment in tone for what I wanted to hear.
Just wanted to pass that along.

Put an NOS rectifier in there and you'll like it even more. Although a Mullard costs as much as some speakers, I found that it really made my MAZ Sr. sound more "alive."

Isn't the Red Fang a 30 watt speaker? Isn't this pushing your luck with the SR that puts out probably more than 40 watts?

I figured if the Doc puts a 30wt stock speaker in it, then I could probably do the same thing and be safe as long as I don't crank the living hoo-hau out of it.. The stock speaker was a G12H 30wt speaker.
