Here's the deal...our band is on the way to california...we have shows all the way out there and all the way back...anyhow. I have a Maz 38sr NR...the volume just swells from little to nothing back and forth and intermitantly crackles and pops. I JUST retubed it today and all the tubes light up fine. I thought this would do the trick...but to no avail. I have a weird suspicion that V1 may be givin' me grief. (bad tube socket?) I couldn't find any bad solder connections...anybody got anything? I've been going through tubes like mad, trying to make this beast work for me!
I'm just borrowing amps in the mean time, and I may buy one of those epiphone vavle heads to do for now...last night I had to go direct into the board!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!! HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got nothin' for ya - but here's some karma; sounds like you need some!
Rectifier? That seems to be the voodoo tube in these amps...
Good luck!

I'd say either a bad rectifier tube (even the new production Recs can be bad right out of the box) or you have a loose socket on one of the power tubes. I had a loose power tube socket and it sounded similar - faded in/out (or, more accurately, faded on/off) almost like it wasn't getting enough power. Retensioned the clips and the problem went away. Super easy fix...

Hey there...thanks to all of you guys...I would give you all karma....I'm just not sure how...I guess just hit the exalt button?...I'll try that.
Well just got done with the show. Had to borrow some random guys marshall triple super lead.......ummm....goo. It sucks, because I seem to have a lot of trouble with this amp...although every time it has been tube related other than one time a solder near the 3amp fuse broke...but I took that straight to Z and it was fixed in mere minutes (I'd like to tell about when I got to go to Z's shop, but I'm not sure where to post that)...anyhow I've been setting my amp up differently and have been LOVING the way it sounds...it blows me away every night....and now this happens!
I'll see if I can contact myles, but right off hand any idea where he is located? Just so I'm clear, I have 2 (what seem to be good (brand new)) rectifiers. Bare-buh-Dare...I think what you are saying sounds to be about right...seems like the amp is starved for power. How do I go about retensioning the clips?
Just so everyone knows, I'm headed to Guitar Center to buy one of those Epiphone valve Jr. heads in case the Z can't be fixed by me...I'm that desperate. Any and all help is cherished!!

Check the Effects Loop.
Try a short pedal cable from send to return.

See if the volume control (or any of the pots) are a little loose to the touch...bad ground from the pots to the chassis will make a heckuvalotta noise--intermittently-- when the amp is operating. 'Wiggle' the volume control up and down a little, if its loose, you'll know from the noise! DON'T OVERTIGHTEN 'em, just get 'em snug IF they're loose and don't tighten the actual knob up too tight either!

Myles is on this forum, although I haven't seen a post from him in a while. But you can call Groove Tubes and ask for him. He'll always hook a z-bro up.

Hey thanks everybody!! Doc Z...I tried the whole effects loop thing, and even tried to do just into the return or into the send...and I thought that it was fixed for a few minutes and then sure enough the volume completely dropped out and then swelled back in and so on and so forth.
BW....I appreciate the advice. The noises are not that prominent...the main problem is having no noise at all! haha! But I will still try that out. It's like the amp wants to make beautiful sounds so badly but just can't....like I said earlier, starved for power. I have two brand new rectifiers that I've put in...still wondering.

I bought the epiphone valve...it's no Z. (obviously) but it sure beats the sound board.
