Despite my complaints about the size and weight of my 2x12 combo, sometimes there is just no substitute for a big amp.
Got a late call for a fill-in--Soul/R&B/Blues band. Keys, bass, drums, percussion, 4-piece horn section. Everything through the PA, but only horns and vocals through monitors.
Bass player using a 600W rig, with 2 compressors.
It was mind-boggling loud onstage--I set the amp 1:30 vol, Master Full blast (1:00 Treble, 2:00 Mid, 8:00 Bass, 10:00 Cut, 10:00 Rev). Amp was crisp and clear for funky rhythms with the guitar's vol backed off a bit, full and rich when I needed.
Nothing but a Tele. I used a BD2 for light grit, a Keeley modded SD-1 for screaming drive and both on for "over the top". A wah and earplugs completed the rig.
Did Meters, Neville Bros, Tower of Power, James Brown, Marcus Miller, Freddie King, Temptations, Sam & Dave, Commodores, Otis Redding, Arthur Conley, Wild Cherry, etc--even the Peter Gunn theme.
2 sets, each over 1:30. Same sound, same volume all night.
Couldn't ask for a more versatile (or louder) gigging amp.

I love the Z for my gigs, cuts right through, yet, doesn't over power anyone, crisp, clear funky rhytms and great sustainable lead tones. I love my Z!

A 2x12 combo with Webers, reverb, and an effects loop... You can do anything you want with it...
I have a combo and a head with a Z best... same config on both (well, no reverb on the head, and I use an Airbrake with it sometimes), and right now don't have gas for any other amp. Flirted with a couple affordable Fuchs heads this year, but they're just no match for the Maz 38 as far as I'm concerned.

The 38 2x12 was my first and favorite Z, it just had more volume on tap than I needed, so I went to the Junior. If I ever find myself in a band setting that requires the stage volume, it'll be the first amp I look to re-aquire.
