I was able to use a Dr. Z Maz 38 Sr. at an outdoor gig this weekend. I got tons of compliments on tone; I was also quite happy with the response of the amp and the tone; I'm very close to buying it.
There was one issue that I wanted to ask about:
I didn't have much time to really dial in a tone and the one I got was GREAT with neck pickup and both pickups but seemed VERY bright on the bridge pickup. The guitar is a Parker Fly Mojo with Seymour Duncans. The settings seemed relatively modest; tones were close to straight up cut was maybe 11 (trying to dial back some of the bright).
Was I perhaps misunderstanding the tone controls and therefore running them too high? Or is this simply a very bright amp?
Thanks as always for your help.

Might be the guitar. A bright guitar will make the amp brighter. I used to run my Maz 38 with the treble and bass at about 9:00, the mids about 3:00 and the cut pretty low too. One thing about these amps is the higher you run the preamp volume the brighter and edgier it gets. As you crank it up you need to start cutting the highs from where you had it at lower volume.

The Maz is pretty bright.
You can get away with lower settings on the treble & cut knobs than you might think.

I find the Maz works great with higher output pickups. I use vintage hot Fralins on my strat. My combo has the stock Celestion which is a bright speaker, you may try something like a Tone Tubby hemp cone to tame the highs

Personally I think you can get the amp to do pretty much everything you need it to. Play around with the eq stack as it is very tweakable and very responsive. You should be able to dial out any of the brightness that is bothering you.
great amps, bb

What speakers are you using with the 38?

The Parker is a bright guitar. I had a Fly Deluxe for 5 years...
My settings with the Parker were Cut - 10am Bass - 10 am Mid - 12 noon Treble - 10 am to 11 am
Pretty much the same w/ Tele and Strat
The LP the treble gets bumped to noon same with the cut.
