After too many club gigs hearing "Can you guys turn it down?", we played an outdoor gig on Labor day. Master all the way up and volume at 10 o'clock. Absolute heavenly tone! Just added my Fulldrive2 on some songs. This amp, Maz Sr. 1X12, continues to amaze and delight me the more I play it. If anyone out there is on the fence over purchasing one of these I hope this will help persuade you to get one. I have other great amps also but the Maz is my first choice to take to the gig.

I have acquired two more Z amps since my first, a Maz 38. I haven't used my 38 for quite a while so about two weeks ago when I ordered my RX Jr I thought maybe I should thin the heard and sell my Maz. So out of respect I plugged her in and cranked it up.... Oh my ...Nope, not selling her

I just bought a Maz Sr. head w/verb from a fellow Z-Talk-er and while the kids were away (finally back at school!) I cranked it and and - WOW! Haven't ever played anything like it. Well, maybe because it's my first boo-teek amp...

Yeah the Maz is my first bow-teak amp also. I still have my old fender amps which are great but somehow just aren't getting much playtime anymore. The other thing about the Maz is to keep playing with the settings, you'll find alot of cool tones if you do.

I have a '65 Tremolux, just had it retubed and I much prefer the MAZ Sr. Maybe the Tremo needs new filter caps but that's for another thread. The MAZ sounds awesome through the Tremo's 2X10 cab (original speakers) though!

The Maz amps are much more open sounding than any of the Fender non reverb blackface amps. I love my old Vibrolux Reverb but I still gig the Zs.

The Z's make you "open" your wallet. Seriously though, to me theres just alot more information especially the small transient overtones that give more detail to your sound. It's like having a blanket or sheet thats in front of your amp removed. I'm also into high end audio gear and it's the same thing. The better gear just delivers more detail but in a musical rather than sterile analytical way.

When my back is really acting up and I simply can't get my Marshall cab down to the studio, I often use my buddy's twin for the speakers. It's his studio so the twin is already there. Anyway I plug the Maz into the speakers of the twin and it sounds AWESOME!!! I don't know what it is -maybe the open back cabinet of the twin, the speakers, both?

I would play "YMCA" 10 times at a Kiwanis convention (no offense meant, all you Kiwanis Z-owners out there), just to hear my Maz turned up! I quit my old club band cuz of all the reasons we quit, but I sit in whenver i can just to hear my amp sing! I'd play that loud at the house, but my ears get numb after a while, and my neighbors give me strange looks...

Yeah, I agree about the open-ness of the amp. I have not heard an amp touch it in clarity and also high-end harmonics, except for maybe the Stang Ray. I hate muddiness in amps. I hate that 'warm' 'tube' low mid bump that a lot of people think sounds good. With the Maz you can dial that out totally, in fact, its never really there to begin with. The Maz 38 is also my first Boutique amp, before that I had a Peavey Classic 50 for years, and it was a total 'blanket lift' when I got the Maz. However, the downfall about getting better gear is that my ears are getting finer tuned as well. Couple that with being an audio engineer who is constantly listening for subtleties and I am driving myself crazy getting the tone right. The only thing about the amp that I am not crazy about is when you crank it, it's too piercing in the high end. At medium and low volumes the amp is perfect for me though. I was playing with a really loud drummer and another dude with a twin last night and the amp just wasn't cutting it at max volume. Too harsh but when I cut the highs it was getting lost.

Which Maz do you have? I've never had a problem being heard over heavy handed drummers. You might try a 4X10 cab for those situations. Backing off on the bass and the cut along with turning down the reverb has worked for me in loud situations.

Playing that loud will not help your most important tools of the trade, your ears! It doesn't get much louder than a cranked twin reverb. Given the same speakers a twin will overpower a Maz sr.

When we play outdoor festivals I crank my Maz Sr. I know that it buries me in the mix when we get a recording. I know that if I turned it down then I would be turned up at the board and I would be out front more in the mix. But I just really love the feel and sound of the amp when really cranked. I just can't help myself ;D I do love that amp. I am looking forward to the 08 season and doing it all over again.

I acquired a Maz 38 Sr and played a few small gigs till Saturday night. I had it dimed on the Master with the VOl set to 12 oclock. WOW! OMG! This amp was made to be played loud and big. Unbelievable clean and great grind thanks to the BB on the front end. I have a Maz18 I have played in the same venue but the 38 is unbelievable!
I have the Head (with Verb) and 1x12 Cab and was playing my 59 Historic Les Paul in the Low input. I had the sound man take my giuitar out of the monitor so I could hear the pure tones directly form the amp behind me. I am extremely pleased with my purchase and hats off to the Doc for making a really great amp... Thanks to Midtown in Atlanta for great service, too!

Billyguitar is right, make sure you protect your ears! Invest in some custom made ear protection that allows you to hear without destroying your hearing. I got mine from a hearing aid store, they were around $145. BTW I play a 1985 '57reissue Strat with Fralins thru MazSr 1X12 most of the time and to me, it just flat out gets it! I now have the tone I was hearing in my head. The most important thing with the MAZ is to keep experimenting with the settings. Eventually you will find your tone.
