Hey Guys, I got a question in regards to my Maz38NR.I was thinking about sending it to Z to have him check it out.I bought the amp used and I'm having a hard time with the bass control. Here's how I'm setting my amp.Let me know if this is normal.
Volume - 9:00 Bass - Off to barely on Treble - 9:00 Mids - 11:00 Cut - 3:00 Master - 3:00 Plugged into the high input.
I'm using a Tele and running the amp at 16ohms into a Blue/G12H loaded cab.
I've got JJ El84's, GE 5751 in V1, JJEC83 in V2 and a LP in V-3.I also have a Jan Philps 5ar4.
I can't run the bass any higher than barely on or the bottom gets way too big.Is this normal for this amp?
I just want to make sure I'm not wasting Doc's time by sending this amp back for a go over.
Thanks, Billy

Try bringing you cut down to about 9:00-10:00. Take your treble up to about noon -1:00. I find that if I'm trying to get a new sound out of this amp I turn the cut off, get my sound close to what I'm looking for, then slowly bring up the cut. Ya might need new output tubes as well, do ya know how old they are?

The tubes are new.The bass is very sensitive. It comes on quick and even with the bass off the amp's not thin.I'm going to get a Gretsch 6120 and I'm afraid I might not be able to knock out enough lows to make it work with that guitar.

Well, here's the neighborhood where I run mine with a strat and LP: Master: Dimed Bass: Noon Mid: 11:00'ish Treble: Noon-1:00 Cut: 9:00'ish Gain/Volume: Barely on, it's LOUD! LOL Reverb: 8:00-9:00'ish
I use the high input, it just sounds better to me. Do you have any pedals in front of the amp that might be causing some problems?

My MAZ-38 (into a Z-Best cab) also pumps out loads of bass. This is especially noticeable at gigs, where I've occasionally had to turn the Bass all the way down. After which it sounded great. I've recently added a Gretsch (with TV Jones PowerTrons) to my collection: lows no problem, unlike my Les Paul's P-90's. Is your cab open or closed? That can make a big difference.

Get your hands on a GT 7025 and a JJ ECC803, swap 'em around in V1 and V2. Another tube that might help is a Electro Harmonix 12AX7EH, I've always thought that they sounded like a cross between and 7025 and ECC83. Could be a cheap solution, but maybe you should send it in for a check up.
