Well...I played about a dozen amps today in the ~$1k to $2k range in my go-to store....and I have to say that I was most impressed by a Maz38 combo. I have always been a Fender guy and really wondered if the Maz would fit me not being a Fender. I really enjoyed the change! I had played a small JR combo a few months ago and it just didnt fit me. I wouldnt say I wrote of the good Dr at that point, but there weren't any other Z's there for me to try. I believe. It was one of the cleanest, and most natural tones I have heard out of an amp. Obviously this is not new news to you fellas around here, but I was extremely impressed... and am now in the hunt for a Maz-38 SR head and Z-best cab for my own use. I just have to join the conversation enough around here to get my 50 posts to post in the emporium lol! Kudos on a fantastic amp...I cant wait to have one to plug my Strat and soon to have PRS into!

...and then of course I do some more reading and find out there may be a 6L6 of fenderish flavour on the way? Any links to information about that?
Thanks!

Check out the Galaxie thread. You can't beat the Maz 38 for versatility.

Another great current production amp to investigate is the Z-28. It's a great Fendery type vibe with its own Z flavor. Very much like a Brown Deluxe but can step into Marshallesque territories when pushed hard.
From your comments, I don't know that the Galaxy would tickle your fancy - however, the Evan is due out soon and is going to strongly favor the Fender blackface era - but again with Z's character/vibe.
My Sr 212 is my go-to amp for most gigs/studio situations. A really great, classic amp.

It's still my favorite Z. And it can do some very nice Fender flavors as well. Mine used to sit next to a 1965 Bassman. Maz Sr is still here, Bassman is gone............................

My Maz Sr 2x10 is my first/only Z, and after almost 2 years the honeymoon still isn't over. It is by far the most versatile, sweet-sounding amp I have ever heard. I could never replace it - only add to it.
Oh yeah, the RED ones sound the best! ;D

Just got back from the cabin so I havent had the net for a few days...
I think the Evan is the one Ive been reading about. Are there any specs out on this one or is it still in early stages?
I definately think that 38 will fit me well. I see they dont hit the forums or ebay too often....they must be a keeper!
For me it will mostly be for single coil blues stuff and hollowbody phishy tones. I like the fact that so many of you speak of it as a "swiss army knife" of amps. Im currently in between amps and that saves me the hassle of looking for two! I only had a chance to play singles through that combo, but they sounded fantastic!
Does anyone have any comments on the tone differences between the 2x12 combo vs a head a cab setup in a Maz 38?
Thanks!

This is the most incredible amp I’ve ever owned. The headroom makes the difference. I also play single coils. The combo makes it pretty easy to grab and go. You can’t go wrong with any Z. If the 38 is too loud, just get an Airbrake.

For versatility, the Maz 38 Sr is the best....couldn't say it any better. I've played R&B, jazz, rock, blues, you name it through this baby, and she pures tremendously well. Although, in my opinion, any hollow body for R&B and jazz, especially through my Gibson ES-335, I haven't heard a more beautiful sound in my life. And of course, as anyone here knows who owns a Z, the fender strat is ideal for this awesome amp. I'm so glad I found Z.
