Even though I don't have the official numbers to actually determine the demand for either Maz . When viewing the 4000 plus visiting this forum, it appears the Maz 18 Jr is one well sought after amp, at lease from a curiosity point of view. Whichever you own, hands down Dr. Z Amps are simply the BEST.
What was your impression of this amp the first time you plugged in......please keep your response to 1,000000 words or less.

My friend got it off ebay and said it wasn't really for him (more of a Mesa guy), so he let me borrow it to try out. My impression after 5 minutes was "I'm selling my BiValve and buying this amp."

My entry into the fold was my experience playing a Mazarati in the studio and deciding I have to have one. I play live a lot as well so I was drawn to the master volume of the Senior. I'm not sure the Maz was quite what I thought it would be, but its a lovely amp. I wish I could get it to do clean and dirty from a footswitch without big changes in volume, though! :-)

Honestly, I was abit underwhelmed at the Maz 18 when it arrived. There was so much hype surrounding these amps, that I had the delusion that Angels would appear at the first strum of a power chord, regardless of how I set it up.
After about a half hour of serious buyer's remorse, I realized the fault was entirely with me and my ignorance on how to operate a single channel, class A tube amp correctly. I had mostly used channel switching amps, with higher gain pre-amps prior to purchasing the Z, so I was basically clueless on how to best use this type of amp.
Once I figured out my mistake, I did some knob-twiddling (cut & volume knobs especially), and the 3-D tones jumped from my Stratocaster. Before I knew it, I had the best "Wind Cries Mary" tone I'd ever achieved and that's when the fun started. From that point onward, buyer's remorse was somebody else's hangup, because I knew I'd found THE ONE. Well, until I played a Maz38, that is. ;D
Aside from my Vibrochamp, I haven't touched my vintage Fenders since...

My experience mirrors Ripple's.
I "traded up" from a Mini-Z, looking for a "Maxi-Z" type sound, which the Maz can certainly do. But when I spun up a clean sound, I was left wondering where all the hype about the "ultimate strat amp" came from.
Now I've had more of a chance to spin the knobs, I'm starting to get it. Once I started listening with my ears, instead of my expectations, the Maz started to reveal itself to me.
Definitely a "grownup" amp. :-)

My first experience with a Z amp was actually watching someone play it and I couldn't believe the tones he was getting. I was indeed jealous and immediately talked to him after his first set and found out what this amp with the letter Z implanted on it was; he told me they were hand-made amps from Ohio. So of course I went to the DrZ website, made sure I got one for Christmas. At the time, I was playing a Mesa Boogie, and i still do, but the Z will always be the best amplifier i've ever played, hands down. Best tone I've ever gotten out of my strat/prs/gibson....

Funny actually. The first time I plugged into a Jr was a 1x12 combo. Probably played for all of 30 seconds and didnt think highly of it. Immediately went back to the row of fenders next to it.
Months later I played a used Sr combo in the same store (Daves Guitar WI) and was BLOWN away. Happened to be looking at a Vibro King that day and was totally taken back by the Z.
As my thread in the Jr forum states, a few days later I played a ton of Zs (and also a Two-Rock, several Fuchs, Heritage, etc.) and the Jr stole my heart. The Jr head with the Z-Best was my favorite in the store, but the Jr with a 1x12 was a close second (and more suitable for me right now).
Hopefully before too long Ill have a Z-Best coming my direction.
The Maz Jr head with Z-Best cabinet was easily one of the most amazing tones I have ever head (out of my hands anyway.) If I could have that and a Custom Reverb Sig w/ 2x12 I would never need another amp in my life....well except maybe for the Evan, or the Galaxie, or maybe a Ghia....

My old Fenders are getting a well deserved rest....not to say I won;t use them again but for now my Z's, 38 & 28 can cover literally everything I play. I have a Tonker in the 38 and I can play my acoustic thru it and get it to sound good... I haven;t tried my steel thru it but now that I mention it, I think I will. Great amps...no question about it.. They are a tad on the weighty side though!

I walked into a dealer looking to buy a Victoria, their deluxe clone. They had a wall of combos, Bruno, Matchless, Marshall, Mesa Boogie, Fender, Victoria, Z's. I tried SO hard to talk myself into buying the Victoria. But after playing the Z there was no comparison. None of the other amps could hold a candle to it. Haven't looked back since.

Maz Sr. is Z's most versatile amp. I think it's his best design with the Route 66 and Carmen Ghia comin' in a close second.

After years of playing Silverface Fenders, a Hotrod Deluxe and finally a Mesa Rectoverb 50 (which I bought to have a "Santana" tone, and then went back to running the clean channel with a Tubescreamer - sad or what?) I tried Z amps. First a Stangray, which totally blew me away, before settling on the more versatile Maz Sr. This amp made me play clean again! Absolutely the best tone I've ever had. There are so many different, gorgeous sounds I've managed to dial in, especially when recording. For live playing I've taken up someone's suggestion on the forum here to max the Master and control the level with the Volume. Simply sublime.

I plugged into a Ghia, then a Route 66 and then a Maz 38. Bought the Maz. All in a matter of less than 30 minutes. It was a very easy sell for the salesman.

I had read the hype on this site, went and played some Victorias, Tone Kings, and the Z's. (About four different models of Z's). All were excellent amps. Went home with a Maz Sr. 1X12. Works for me!

Hi, I worked in the Nashville scene as an Assistant Engineer on Music Row. I worked with some of the best studio musicians in the business and have heard some of the best sounding vintage Fender, Marshall, and boutique amplifiers. Some of the session players would have an amp with a "Z" in their racks along with their other amps. I began to research the "Z" amps and found the website. I played 5 different models of "Z" amps and stumbled upon the MAZ Senior that I currently own. Lets just say that my vintage collection is now down to just a Fender '59 Tweed Vibrolux. The Maz is the best amp you can by for the money... Period. Thanks Doc! -Ashevilleguy

Sent tingles down my spine. Didnt think another amp could do that after playing my Chicago Blues Box Humbolt head. Wonderful clean tones from the Maz 38.
