I just purchased a lovely Maz 38 SR NR head and already own a Ghia. The Maz blew my doors off last week, as does the Ghia every time I take her out.
Here's the rub: as part of the deal, I put my Maz 38 Studio Lead head up on eBay. I had her cleaned, replaced some of the preamp tubes (including installing a nice balanced JJ AT7 in V5), and generally got her in perfect shape for a sale.
Well... The top eBay bid was $790.00, far below my reserve. And to top it off, I plugged her into both the Weber equipped Mesa 2x12 and the 12H30/Texas Heat ZBest... and SHE blew my doors off...
The conundrum. I DON'T want to sell her now. I don't really NEED the money. Shall I sacrifice the Ghia to appease my spouse, or rear back and insist on keeping all three?

Conundrum is right. As George Klooney put it in Bro Where arth Thou, "tight spot, we're in a tight spot". Sorry, I can't give any advice but can sympathize with your conundrum. On second though maybe you could sell your spouse? (only joking, mine is priceless and suspect yours is too)

I'll give you 790.00 for your Maz NR head so now you can keep the Studio Lead and the ghia and your wife will be happy... didn't think so... Well then I see a " but Honey, I tried to sell one on e-bay and it just wouldn't sell" excuse in your immediate future... better yet, you could put your OTHER two Z's on there now with ridiculously high reserves so you KNOW they won't sell and then tell her... " But I tried to sell them honey... I guess I'll just have to keep one Maz as a back-up and try to get some use out of them to justify keeping them... so I'm sorry honey but I'm gonna have to play alot more.... Honey... Baby ....darlin" ;D

Thing is that the new Maz is in a flight case... Out of sight, out of mind? These aren't like the old collection of combos where she'd see them and the immediate "Why do you NEED SO many AMPS?" question would jump into her head. And, let's face it, $800.00 for a perfect 38 just isn't reasonable (maybe in the REAL world, but once you've played one... forget it!).
I listed it in the local paper at $1200.00 firm... maybe pricey, but if it goes for that I might be able to live with myself and wouldn't feel like anyone was being taken advantage of. And if it DOESN'T go... well, I tried TWICE and didn't get a fair price, right? JG's got a point...
Well, my problem is that at a certain point, these are like kids to me. They become more than possessions. Don't worry, I'm WORKING on it...

Sell or trade both the Ghia and the Studio 38 Lead and buy a MAZ Junior in the same color combination as the Senior.....she'll think you have only ONE amp! Mark

Well, it'd be so out of character with me that she'd KNOW somethin was up.
Although I DID give her that $1000.00 that I bet her when I told her I was done buyin' amps after the Maz Jr...

...and I actually DO have a friend looking for a Ghia who'd probably give me dibs if HE decided to sell it.

If you've got food on the table and are paying all the bills, it's not unreasonable to keep all 3 amps.
I'd be honest and firm with the wife.
Paul (5 amps scattered around the house).

Mine doesn't care as long as they stay in my guitar room and out of the way ;D
But I DID buy her a new car back in July...I suppose that helps too.

Yeah, I had to go out and buy my wife a new computer, you know, the equal opportunity thing? Or is that quid pro quo?
Anyway, it worked. There's peace among this multiple Z household. I couldn't get rid of her anyway - she is the mother of my children. Oh, and she helps me load my roadcases in the mini-van.

I think I'm set now with my two girls. I DID splurge and get some candy for my pedalboard though: Zen, Mosferatu, and a Timmy. KoT hopefully comes around a little later in the year...
