I've got the chance to buy the following tube from a guy off the net:
Can anyone give me any insights in to this tube? I'm thinking of picking it up just for a backup. Not sure how it will sound in my stangray.

Am I missing something? I see no identification of what type of tube it is other than NOS Phillips. Other than that I can maybe speculate it's a telefunkin or something with the Holland origin thrown in

I didn't assume that another name would be required to identify it. If someone is asking about Mullard or Amperex, etc would I assume another name to further identify it? Maybe its me that's missing something.

If I remember correctly, Philips Holland was the parent company and made all these tubes that were rebranded by various companies including Amperex, Phillips Miniwatt, Valvo and even Mullard (but they would be branded Holland rather than Gt. Britain of course) They have a fine mesh plate. Excellent quality tubes, I have owned the Phillips Miniwatt version, the Valvo (which can also be made in Germany), and the Dario Miniwatt which I really loved, the most recent Amperex branded ones I have are a bit sterile and HiFi. I think they vary a bit depending on the vintage, you'll see slighly different plate structures over the years, and they certainly sound different. Here's what they look like (this is one of my Amperex ones): Going price for these is $60-85 depending on the branding and vintage, and I have seen a few as high as $125. I'd grab a couple now, the current production tubes are not so great, and these are likely to get more expensive in the future.
